About this listen

I was a rock star in one of the most successful bands in the Miami area. I had money, fame, and millions of female fans - and then my world came crashing down.

I couldn't believe it! I had to go to rehab "for my own safety." Pffft!

Whatever. I'll spend a few weeks doing some BS art projects and waste some time listening to a bunch of idiot addicts whine about how their parents never loved them.

Just my luck, while I was just chillin', waiting for my dealer to find someone else to blame for his stolen stash, I met my hottest dream in the form of a counselor who wouldn't just let me slide.

Just when I thought I couldn't be in a worse situation, one little mistake - a little fun in the art room with this counselor, the hottest girl I've ever laid eyes on - and we were both thrown out.

To make things worse, the girl that I thought was my "hottest dream" became my angel. And I'm not about to let anyone - not even Big J and not even my own stupid messed-up self - ruin the little taste of heaven she gives me.

Full review: North (Contemporary New Adult Bad Boy Suspense Romance) 4 StarsBy Jade Allen North is the epitome of clichés; a hard rock band member goes to rehab to hide from his revenge seeking dealer, who is convinced Alex North stole from him. While there he sleeps with his counselor, resulting in both of them being kicked out. With nowhere else to hide, he stays with her and falls in love. What a surprise! What makes this book better than other cliché stories? What happens after! I expected the first part and saw what was coming from a mile away, but then, BAM surprises and twists kept coming. I can’t say much more without spoiling the book for you. I can tell you this much; A completely and totally great read! Not only will Alex’s actions surprise you, but Mary (the counselor) with make your jaw drop. I listened to the audio version of this book, and would recommend this to all readers. I’m not a fan of all the detailed intimacy but still loved it. I will warn readers; this is not a book to listen to in a car with kids; the audio version is definitely rated R. The narrator did a great job too. Overall; a quick and smooth story, great writing with excellent character development, 4 Boundless stars for North. I’ve already started Nick, book 2 of the series, and look forward to hearing his story.

Missing the Hard Rock...

So this book started out good and then it went south. Like way south into nothing that resembled a band or hard rock. At best the sex scenes were pretty good. This book lacked depth for me. I won't say the writing was bad, just had an underdeveloped plot that had more to do with drugs than a band. And not in a way you're thinking.

On the upside, D.C Cole is a new narrator to me and he was a great voice actor. He was very versatile with the characters and I could almost picture how they looked based on the voice. Even though he sounded like Rod Sterling at points when he spoke fast, I believe his still did a decent job.

Sexy, suspenseful and hot!

This is my first Jade Allen book, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's a short listen that has hot sex, gorgeous well developed characters, suspense and intrigue. It is about Alex North hiding from a drug lord in a rehab center. There he meets Mary, his counselor. After a trist in the art room, Mary is fired and Alex is removed from rehab. They go to Mary's house since Mary felt it would be safe for Alex. Alex's band mates come over and a plan is hatched. During this whole ordeal, it is unclear whether Alex really wants to clean up his life or not, but in the end, if he is going to die anyway, does it really matter? Well, I could tell you the ending, but it's better if you listen!

D.C. Cole has an amazing voice for this book. It's raspy and sexy, perfect for the rocking, bad boys. I am looking forward to the rest of this series and hope Jade let's it out in audio!

Just the thing for fans of quick reads

What was one of the most memorable moments of North?

From the start I was intrigued by the fact that both the hero and heroine are imperfect people who make questionable decisions. I enjoyed their emotional and personal growth over the course of the story. Even though this is book 1 in a series, the author reveals Alex and Mary to be complex personalities.

What about D. C. Cole’s performance did you like?

DC Cole infused just the right amount of heat and grit to bring Alex alive. His female characterization was also well done. This narrator definitely added to the enjoyment of this audiobook.

Any additional comments?

Nicely crafted sensual romance. This was a strong introduction to a new author and new narrator.

quick read

I usually don't like a short read, as they usually feel too fast, especially for a romance. they usually feel like as soon as you start getting into the characters the book is over, or the sex scenes are too rushed for the characters. but with this book I didn't feel like it was rushed or that anything was missing. I was satisfied with the ending. I enjoyed the book and the narration was great. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to finish in a day.

Wish it were longer

Good short story. Believe that it could have been lengthened and given more depth without becoming dull. Narrator did really well. Look forward to future books in the series.

Rocker Short

Would you listen to North again? Why?

There are definitely some hot scenes in this book and some smoking chemistry.

Did D. C. Cole do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

His voice is so smooth that sometimes I felt like my mind was drifting off like it calmed me and I would have to rewind the book to listen to parts again. Love the voice but it was almost too relaxing.

Any additional comments?

I am not usually a fan of books with lots of drug use in them but this one seems to back off every time I was just about at my limit with drug talk. I know it was the basis of the story but the personal use is what gets to me.

Whos a rock star? Jade is!

this is a short light read. its not to heavy and in-depth, but is a good fast read. It has a little bit of romance, and a bit of suspense. i love the fact that not only is North hiding out in a rehab from a crazy drug dealer, but he also gets kicked out of it!
there are 3 sex scenes that are very well written. she really did a great job of writing these. the narrators voice was great at reading these, and the book!
Jade really did a great job on this book, and i look forward to the next one!
