About this listen

Bloomsbury presents Not the Ones Dead by Dana Stabenow, read by Marguerite Gavin.

The gripping new Kate Shugak novel by New York Times bestselling author Dana Stabenow. What seems a tragic accident soon becomes a murder investigation as Kate is drawn into a case of political intrigue.

A mid-air collision in the Alaskan wilderness between two small aircraft leaves ten people dead. Was it a bird strike, pilot error... or premeditated murder?

Then an eleventh body is found in the wreckage: a man shot gangland style, twice in the chest and once in the head.

In an investigation that reaches to the highest levels of government, justice may not be served, but Kate Shugak is determined that the truth will out, even at the risk of her life and the lives of those she loves most.

The old Kate returns! A bit political, although fiction, the story runs true! Looking forward to the next adventure!

Love Kate, family & Park Rats

Scary far right, far left not much better. Let's hear it for those of us hanging out somewhere in the middle.

Timely Issues addressed

I’m asking if Dana Stabenow wrote this book. Somehow it’s lost its charm. The story is slow to start and finally improves around chapter 6. Also she’s resurrected characters from the dead. The biggest disappointment is the narrator. I had difficulty identifying the characters as she has degraded to “reading” the story versus prior “performances”. I guess my expectations are too high.

Slow Story and Sad Narration

Dana Stabenow never disappoints and I can’t imagine a better narrator. Current, timely and sharp.

Excellent story and narrator

Can’t wait for the next one! Hope it is coming soon - amazing narrator and storyline

Love Mutt!

I liked it. Kate, Mutt, Jim, Dan, Bernie were all there and contributed to the story. This cast of characters illuminated a threat of hatred and division that is ripping through the rest of America. As always, Kate solves the problem. OBTW, Dana Stabenow, when will Kate become one of the "aunties?"

It was another detailed great book. So many new books today ignore the pandemic but it was positive to have
This incorporated into the story as sad as it was

Another great story

I’ve read all the Kate books. Love them & the characters. More & more I see politics creeping into novels I read. We get enough crammed down our throats daily. I like to escape when reading so let’s just please stick to the story.

Big fan

This was good. One of her best.. can’t wait for the next book to be released.

Love Kate Shugak

I have loved them all, but I agree with many of the reviews in that I think this one was too political. Not all republicans are right wing crazies and not all Christians are fire and brimstone. I for one am a republican and a Christian and I embrace all races and genders. Also I felt the epilogue was too doomsday. I read to get away from all the craziness in the world today, not happy to have more brought to me through fiction. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, but this may be my last. It is a shame as I do love all the characters.
