Publisher's summary

'This is Littlehaven. Nothing ever happens here. Until the spotlight hits my family.'

Izzy's family is under the spotlight when her dad comes out as Danielle, a trans woman. Izzy is terrified her family will be torn apart. Will she lose her dad? Will her parents break up? And what will people at school say? Izzy's always been shy, but now all eyes are on her. Can she face her fears, find her voice and stand up for what's right?

Content warning: in Nothing Ever Happens Here, the narrator, Izzy, initially struggles to understand and accept her dad's transition. Listeners should be aware that there is some misgendering and discriminatory language used towards the start of the book, as this expresses Izzy's (and other characters') understanding at that point in the story. As Izzy's reactions change and her awareness grows, the language changes to reflect this.

A Great Message for Everyone

I'm a 47 year old man and this story still enjoyed this story. It's obviously for younger readers, but the message is clear. It asks some hard questions and deals with them very well. I'm recommending to everyone regardless of age. This work is important.

Outstanding story

This should be a must read for those who are going through transition, especially if there is an immediate family involved. It is also a great book to teach tolerance, love, humanity and patience. Very well written!

Excellent

This is an essential read and explores a topic that shouldn't be an issue but is. This should be in every school library. Top Drawer by author and reader.

Important topic in a perfectly lovely short story

I chose this Free short story basically knowing nothing about it, because I was out of credits. Haha. What a delightful surprise. The disclaimer in the preface almost put me off. I thought it might be to medically gruesome for me. But as I said, out of stories so I started it on a drive.
The author, reader and non- fiction topic were so thoughtfully put together. I would suggest it as a must read for middle schoolers, but unfortunately the US is going backwards with education. Great job Sarah Hagger-Holt

Charming and inclusive

It's nice to see a story that includes a Trans parent. I can't wait to recommend this to my 14 year old daughter. I applaud the courage of the author and look forward to a time when this is just a teen drama rather than a Trans book. Well done!

Great story line

This story truly helps you to understand the family values you need to have just in life in general. This helped me understand the Trans world and what they are going through so much more! Thank you for writing and publishing this story!
