About this listen

Fan-favorite heroes Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers join forces on a deadly maritime case in the remarkable new novel from number-one New York Times best-selling author John Sandford.

An off-duty Coast Guardsman is fishing with his family when he calls in some suspicious behavior from a nearby boat. It's a snazzy craft, slick and outfitted with extra horsepower, and is zipping along until it slows to pick up a surfaced diver...a diver who was apparently alone, without his own boat, in the middle of the ocean. None of it makes sense unless there's something hinky going on, and his hunch is proved right when all three Guardsmen who come out to investigate are shot and killed.

They're federal officers killed on the job, which means the case is the FBI's turf. When the FBI's investigation stalls out, they call in Lucas Davenport. And when his case turns lethal, Davenport will need to bring in every asset he can claim, including a detective with a fundamentally criminal mind: Virgil Flowers.

I miss Bob

This one didn't hold my interest as well as others. I found myself drifting off, awash in predictable turns. Even the climax was sleepy
Characters seemed more contrived as though bringing them all into the plot just didn't ring true. Ray shone as the nearest to her usual self. Virgil, not at all. And who will replace Bob?

Virgil Flowers With Davenport a winner

I am a great fan of Virgil. This book did not disappoint. The story is a good mix between Virgil and Davenport. My wife and I listened to the story on a road trip!

Fantastic story!

Fantastic story telling. I have listened to 100% of the author's books over many years. They never disappoint and seem to just get better. Thanks for the adventure!

Great book, however...

Really?
Using Ferrone's voice for ALL the characters wasnt great, but NOT using Eric Conger for Virgil's, was a bad idea.
couldve been outstanding..instead was a great story...not a same choice.

Is it my imagination?

I thought the book was really good, well written, held my interest. I even liked the narrator, but I really, really did not care for his performance of Virgil. Has he performed Virgil before? I don’t think so.

Meh....

Not his best. Everything worked out too nicely...except for Bob. Loved all the scuba stuff, though.

I disagree

Mr Ferrone is the very reason I became an audible subscriber! His voice delivers, the cadence of his voice
The credence that he Affix to the character is captivating!
