About this listen
This novel of 67,000 words is a sweet and clean variation of Pride and Prejudice written from a Christian perspective. The characters meet as children and grow in understanding of themselves and each other over the period of Elizabeth at age five until her marriage. There are no super-villains to wreak havoc on our heroes or heroines in this low-angst retelling.
Except: Summer 1796 -
On a mild summer day in Hertfordshire, Lady Anne Darcy sat in the shade of the terrace overlooking the generous expanse of manicured lawn behind their leased estate. Netherfield Park was an agreeable location to rest. It was close enough to London to be convenient for her husband, James, to conduct business with his solicitors and manage his various investments. More importantly, it was free of the stench of London during the heat of summer and gave her ladyship a quiet place to recover from the birth of her baby daughter.
Hearing raucous laughter, she looked up to continue her watch of the children of various ages and sizes gamboling about the green space before her. She smiled as she realized that one little girl was engaged in warfare with the group of boys, slashing her stick sword about with abandon.
That would be little Lizzy Bennet of Longbourn, only five years old and small at that, but giving as good as she gets, her ladyship thought with a smile. What a delightful child. So full of life and energy. I know that her being here playing with the boys would distress her mother, but having been a pampered and constrained child myself, I am vicariously enjoying her freedom. You will be trussed up into stays and fancy dresses soon enough, Lizzy. Enjoy the day.

I much prefer the sharpest criticism of a single intelligent man to the thoughtless approval of the masses. ELIZABETH BENNET is determined that she will put a stop to her mother’s plans to marry off the eldest Bennet daughter to Mr. Collins, the Longbourn heir, but a man that Mr. Bennet considers an annoying dimwit. Hence, Elizabeth disguises herself as Jane and repeats her vows to the supercilious rector as if she is her sister, thereby voiding the nuptials and saving Jane from a life of drudgery. Note: This is not a new work. It has been republished to correct several minor errors. But I do have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed rereading it. In this sweet, clean, low-angst Pride and Prejudice variation, Darcy and Elizabeth meet for the first time when Mr. Darcy Senior stumbles across Elizabeth on the estate grounds. Without a clue as to who this gentleman truly is, she is shepherded into the study to meet the young master of Pemberley. This novel is written from a decidedly Christian perspective, although there are scenes of non-graphic intimacy between married couples. Excerpt: “...

Here is another sweet, clean, very low-angst novella of about 51,000 words with a Christian message at no extra charge. In this gentle love story with almost no villains, seventeen-year-old Elizabeth Bennet meets a man more than twice her age at a point in her life when each of them needs something that the other has to offer. Can their friends-to-lovers plan become a reality? Can it happen twice in one lifetime?

Story
In this low angst, a sweet retelling of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Bennet is not just idle, he is actively cruel. And Mrs. Bennet, while still uneducated, must do whatever she can to protect her daughters from their father. Mr. Darcy’s epiphany comes much earlier than in canon and it changes his relationships not only with the Bennets but with his sister, his cousin Anne, and Bingley. When the Bennet matriarch moves to an estate outside of Bath with her daughters, Bingley follows and so do both Darcy siblings.
