About this listen

In this low angst, a sweet retelling of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Bennet is not just idle, he is actively cruel. And Mrs. Bennet, while still uneducated, must do whatever she can to protect her daughters from their father.
Mr. Darcy’s epiphany comes much earlier than in canon and it changes his relationships not only with the Bennets but with his sister, his cousin Anne, and Bingley.
When the Bennet matriarch moves to an estate outside of Bath with her daughters, Bingley follows and so do both Darcy siblings.

I can’t recall how many times I had an “hmmm” moment from the words of wisdom shared with the characters in this story.

I wonder if the author takes note of all the grandmotherly advice given throughout one’s lifetime. This was a fun, warm and thoughtful read/listen.

So many intelligent words to live by.

I’ll always love a story about Lizzy and Darcy coming together but this wasn’t really about that. Their relationship or any of the others wasn’t the focal point of the book. That is fine. The real downer is the virtual voice. And it’s for all books with virtual voice not just this one. I have tried overcoming it by speeding up the reading to 1.35x which has helped but unfortunately you’ll never be able to get the emotion from the voice.

A good story. A great ending. And always the HEA to make you smile . Don’t like virtual voice

An evil Mr Bennett

I love a good makeover story whether it’s in personal situations, better environment or just appearance. It grabs my attention and keeps me interested. This is one of my favorites in the vagaries. As VV goes this is the least annoying and one I don’t mind when it’s not messing up delivery. If you can get used to Rosings being Rossings you’ll be fine…I think this voice is “Tilda”. Loved this story.

Enchanting story

I enjoyed this story so much I wish it was given an actual narrator. I would have happily paid a credit for it to be properly read. That being said, the virtual voice isn’t terrible and I may listen a second time.

Enjoyable despite virtual voice

What could’ve been a wonderful story read by an actual narrator with proper pronunciation, proper sentence structure, became lacking with virtual voice narration. I would’ve been willing to pay for it with an actual narrator. The story is really good❣️

Virtual voice is terrible.

The virtual voice kills what may be a really good story. If a real narrator reads this, I might consider buying it.

Good people win.

Young wife and mother, Fanny Bennet, is contacted by her estranged sister-in-law Baroness Kirkwood. Lady Kirkwood lets Fanny know her brother, Mr Bennet, is an abusive man who will slowly undermine her confidence and resources. Together with Mr Gardiner they concoct a plan for when the worst happens.

Darcy has become so wrapped up in duty and consequence that he has become a very unpleasant person. It takes rebukes from several people before he recognizes he must make changes in his life.

This is not an Elizabeth and Darcy love story…more one of survival and the need for understanding, compassion and change. There is an HEA…it is just a minor part of the story.

VV is getting better, but still not a substitute for a real narrator. However, I do appreciate that the book is available to listen to as part of my membership so not paying for something I wouldn’t want to keep but still able to enjoy listening.

Mr Bennet is a Baddie

Mr. Bennett is mean - really mean! Mrs. Bennett is good. She and the oldest four girls have learned to play roles to fool Mr. Bennett. Mrs. Bennett and her brother, Edward Gardner, along with Mr. Bennett's sister, who is a wealthy noblewoman, have also been planning how to get around Mr. Bennett's evil schemes. Twenty years later the time comes for the plans to be implemented. Very interesting even is not very believable. But that is okay - this is a novel, not a history book.

Interesting concept

What an awful Mr. Bennett.
Glad you to see a clever Mrs. Bennett. Another explanation for her being flighty.
I would definitely purchase this one with human narrators to bring it to life.

Enjoyed it. I need a read narrator to redo this.
