About this listen

John Owen wrote this book, often given the subtitle The Nature and Power of It, the Danger of Entering into It, and the Means of Preventing That Danger, with a resolution to show how Christians can avoid temptation in living a more spiritual life. A prolific author, Owen was an English nonconformist Church leader who served as academic administrator at the University of Oxford.

Several authors I was reading kept referring to the great insights John Owens reveals about temptation in the Christian’s life. First published in 1658, it is a great reminder that men and women have faced the same temptations through the ages, just disguised in various forms to suit the times. He looks at temptation from many illuminating angles. The old fashioned wording takes a bit getting used to, but is well worth plowing through.

Sound advice from a great Puritan who many have come to admire.

This writing has given me a better understanding of Christ's words to Peter, James and John on the night of His betrayal..... Matthew 26: 41
Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

A powerful, faith-filled, biblically rich expository proclamation on the dangers of temptation. Full of rich application on how we can resist, refute and overcome temptation through the Way of Christ! A call to deep gospel faith and obedience lived out in daily life.

Well worth the time to read and/or listen to. Owen is a very thorough author with an extremely practical writing style. Recommend for young and old, but especially see the benefit for the young to consider the thoughts found here as they could potentially save the reader many troubles by taking heed to the warnings and helpful ways of avoiding temptation and sin. I loved the way Owen points out the ways on which sin presents itself and the ways in which it can be avoided.

Great help to those who with to live godly
