About this listen

A committed doctor to Vancouver's inner city, nothing fazes Sophie Monroe - until a pregnant teenager shows up at her clinic on Christmas Eve requesting sanctuary and claiming the baby's father is one of the city's most influential businessmen. Sophie is in over her head and thankful when aid shows up in the form of an attorney who's a little too confident and a lot too sexy.

Family law expert Caleb Quinn just wants a date, a chance to prove he isn't the elitist jerk Sophie assumes. Helping deliver a baby is not what he has in mind. But before long, protecting a traumatized teenager and her son become his first priority. Even if saving them pits him against the baby's father, a childhood friend. A man who will do anything to keep his dark side private.

But justice never comes cheap. Will doing the right thing cost Sophie and Caleb their reputations? Or their lives?

Solid entertainment

"Off the Grid" (2014, 2020) is an interesting novel about physician Dr. Sophie Monroe and attorney Caleb Quinn, who try to protect Kelly, one of Sophie’s female patients. Eighteen-year-old Kelly claims to have been impregnated by a prominent, married and ruthless man who doesn’t want his indiscretion exposed. Sophie and Caleb’s romantic feelings for each other complicates things. It’s a solid story that moves along well in no small part due to Carly Kincaid’s narration, although I would have liked to have read more about Kelly. Strongly recommended. At my request, I was given this free audiobook and have voluntarily left this review.

Society Lawyer meets free clinic doctor

I received this audio book for free in exchang for a review. I liked the story and it hooked me from the beginning. Sophie, runs a free clinic in the bad part of the city. Calib is a rich lawyer who just so happen to practice family law. They were supposed to attend a fundraiser but their date is derailed when a pregnant teenager is rushed to the clinic in labor. When Sophie cancels the date Calib worries she is in trouble. He shows up just in time to witness the birth of the baby and hear the story the teen shares. This young girl just had the child of a powerful man and she needs protection and legal advice. The story was interesting and I enjoyed how Sophie and Calib fell in love while working together. Julie and Marble were interesting characters and I wished that we cold have gotten to know a back story on them.
I was dissapointed as the narrator seemed to just be reading the book to me and would pause at odd times. She seemed to get a little better further in the story. Another odd thing was when she started a new chapter she spoke louder and faster in a cheerful voice but then dropped back to the regular voice through the rest of the chapter. I wish she at least changed her voice when she read the male conversations.
