About this listen

Court Gentry, aka the Gray Man, is back – and once again on the run from old friends and foes.

Four years ago, Gentry was betrayed by his handlers in the CIA. Now, an old comrade, Russian arms merchant Sidorenko, returns to force him on a mission against his will: kill Sudan’s President Abboud, the supposed trigger for the Darfur genocide. But the CIA has its own plans for Abboud. With his ruthless employers on one side, his blackmailing former friends on the other, and a doomed mission ahead, Gentry would kill just to get out of this one alive.

Every bit as thrilling, informed, and addictive as The Gray Man, and once again skillfully narrated by Jay Snyder, On Target is sure to hit the mark for thriller fans.

“An action-filled yet touching story of a man whose reason has long ago been subsumed by his work ethic.” ( Publishers Weekly)

Second Gray Man

What did you love best about On Target?

It continued the Gray Man's story, and did so in a very believable way. I read this before I read Gray Man, and still had enough context to understand the story. That's the mark of a good and careful author. The book is full of action and exotic places. The hardware is realistically described. The emotions of the main characters seem real and not stilted. This is not a Mission Impossible type book where everything goes perfectly for the main characters. It has gritty detail that makes it believable. I would recommend this book highly.

Who was your favorite character and why?

the Gray Man; he is believable and complex and I can see a lot of me in him (not that I'm an assasin mind you, I'm a lawyer, but I understand the way he thinks).

Have you listened to any of Jay Snyder’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this was my first, but having heard later performances, I really liked him.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No.

Any additional comments?

Major Action Novel

I like action, especially on a long car trip, and this book delivers just as much as The Gray Man. Court Gentry is quite a character with lots of moving parts and superhero machismo. If you want lots of action, this will do nicely.

This series is spellbinding! I love it!

Any additional comments?

Book 2 in the series....and I am really loving this author, this narrator and this character. It's so fast paced, so completely out of my experience set and so well written...My only problem with the book is that.I'm not usually a fan of books about the military or the CIA and now that I've written two glowing reviews, Audible is going to recommend a bunch of books I'm not going to want to listen to. Oh well....it's worth it.

that poor man

A very good story, well narrated, but if I'd had to deal with the female characters Greaney writes, there'd be a few more bodies lying around. Like a basket's worth of lobotomized kamikaze kittens in a sawmill. The narrator does an unnecessarily good job of annunciating their physiognomy.

spine tingling

This book was great! I loved it just as much as The Grey Man, from start to finish. Just when you think it's over...yet another twist in the plot. Well worth the credit!!!!

Good series

Any additional comments?

I like this series fairly well, but to be so fantastic, best in the world, most efficient assassin, Court sure does a lot of stupid things. For instance in this book (!) he walks into the pub to see where his target is sitting, (2) he turns in the woman to the authorities at the airport, and I can go on and on. But, the stories are still gripping. I have discovered a new reading method for the Gray Man series. I read the first 8 to 10 chapters, then I go down to the last chapter and read it, then the next to last, then the one before that. Then I go back up and start reading again. Weird, but it is the only way I can enjoy the books. Very good reader, by the way.

Gray Man is growing on me

I’m sorry but I cannot get passed the terrible character development of Eileen Walsh, otherwise I would have loved to have rated it as a 5 star. Overall the book stayed true north with its original book and I’ve purchased the 3rd book, and am enjoying it too.

Don't let bad reviews prevent you from reading...

Great book and necessary part of the story. I skipped it because of some poor reviews but wish I hadn't.
