About this listen
"HIS NAME WAS RAMBO AND HE WAS JUST SOME NOTHING KID FOR ALL ANYBODY KNEW."
The award-winning novel that inspired the legendary film series starring Sylvester Stallone.
First came the man: a young wanderer in a fatigue coat and long hair. Then came the legend, as John Rambo sprang from the pages of FIRST BLOOD to take his place in the American cultural landscape. This remarkable novel pits a young Vietnam veteran against a small-town cop who doesn't know whom he's dealing with - or how far Rambo will take him into a life-and-death struggle through the woods, hills, and caves of rural Kentucky.
Millions have seen the Rambo movies, but those who haven't read the book are in for a surprise - a critically acclaimed story of character, action, and compassion.

The living dead are more alive than ever! Zombies have become more than an iconic monster for the 21st century: They are now a phenomenon constantly revealing as much about ourselves - and our fascination with death, resurrection, and survival - as our love for the supernatural or post-apocalyptic speculation. Our most imaginative literary minds have been devoured by these incredible creatures and produced exciting, insightful, and unflinching new works of zombie fiction.

Different from the movie
The story was captivating and exciting. it has been a while since I experienced that. Rambo here is just nuts. Can't relate to him much. Can't empathize with him either. But it's still an exciting story.

Fantastic- The book behind the movie
Listened to this after repeated references from author Jack Carr and was not disappointed. As others have written, it is different from the movie but both the book and movie are equally good, or the book perhaps somewhat better. The book is more of a character study on Sherriff Teasel with Rambo as his antagonist. Or is it a character study of Rambo with Teasel as his antagonist? Either way it did not disappoint and the performance by Eric Dove was stellar. Listening to the book confirms that the casting for the First Blood movie was spot on.

Complicated Characters Simple Story
I’ve seen the Rambo movies countless times and so I thought I knew John Rambo, but I had only a superficial understanding of the character Morrell created.
The 3 primary men (Rambo, Teasel, Trautman) are each driven, prideful, and complex. This is brought to life amidst the action and suspense of the story.
Solid work by Mr Dove in his narration, too.

Early look at PTSD
Everyone has seen the Stallone franchise, but they don't know Rambo until they read where his story originated! Wonderfully written as a prose of thought between Rambo and Teasle, up until the climatic, heart-breaking end. This is an early attempt to understand what we now know as PTSD, and what the atrocities of war can do to the psyche of a human soul. Brutal, sometimes funny, but overall very well-written and wonderfully narrated! A must read for any military or historical fiction fan!

Wow
I bought First Blood the movie recently to watch and have some nostalgia. The movie brought it to my attention that the story is based off a book, which then led me here. I found it greatly written and loved that thr persp changed between these 2 war vets as they battle it out. Can't recommend thus book enough.
