Good Story, Interesting Character, Fun Narration

First, the character is a lot of fun. He's hardly the first antihero in literature but the author gives him a lot of depth mostly by letting you learn about what kind of guy he really is as the story is unfolding and you can see how he acts.

Second, the story moves at a good pace. I practically listened to this book from start to finish without a single pause and the few pauses I did take were always short. I couldn't wait to get back to see what was going to happen next. I did not have all of the answers come to me right away while listening and I appreciate not always knowing for sure what is coming up next.

I really enjoyed Tom Jordan's narration. This is the first book I heard him narrate and I feel like he just got the character from the start. I even enjoyed his female voices which is not something I say often about male narrators doing female characters. It didn't feel like I was being read a story. It felt like I was listening to a friend whom I hadn't talked to in a couple of months talking to me about a misadventure he found himself in. Credit for that goes to both the writing and the author and performance of the narrator.

I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The fact that I received this book for free had no baring on my opinion of it.

Hero is Jack.

His marker is with some else . He wonders why and how . Jack being the curious one needs to investigate. Grab it and find out how the investigation goes.

Tom Joran as a narrator is fantastic. His voice is smooth , he brings the story to live

Fascinating Character, unlikely hero

Hey folks, check this out. This is a book about a blackmailer. But, he's really a good guy. I mean, basically.
That sort of sums up this book, It is unlikely but true. It almost seems like a writing exercise. Take someone who can be seen is irredeemable and repugnant and make him or her the lead in your story. And make the character sympathetic.
Well, this book does it. It is a well written and well read character study of a character who we may not want to say we know, but will want to call if we are in trouble.

Jack is diabolical!

This book was fantastic! Jack is a ‘professional blackmailer’. His ‘job’, digging into people’s lives and then blackmailing them with any dirt, is ingenious. Just as you think that Jack is a despicable human, he does some Robin Hood moves...takes the $$ earned from extorting a dead beat dad and sends to the man’s ex! As a side note...the way that Jack lost his eye is gruesome. While blackmailing a mark, Jack uncovers some heavy stuff and the thrilling ride really begins. Can’t wait for the next One-eyes Jack book! The narrator did a great job portraying the character.

Blackmail as a career, who would have thought.

Would you listen to One Eyed Jack again? Why?

Black mail as a career, requires multiple marks and complexities. So many crimes, so little time as they may say. And the longer your in the business, the more complex it becomes by those looking to end your career. But, One Eyed Jack needs to have some personal time too. The secrets he must keep make my head spin. It's a very good story.

Good Read!

Excellent writing and keeps you engaged. The narrator, Tom Jordan, at first seemed surprised at the story, then amused, before hunkering down in his role as Jack. I loved that you could hear that in his voice! But then again, he is a master narrator. Should have seen that coming!

I loved this listen!!

Tom Jordan can narrate the phone book and I would still want more. There is a silky male softness to his voice and listening to him was the best part of this listen. I digress.

This is a really good story and I sincerely hope there is a book two. Jack was a great character! He does bad things but to bad people so that's okay, right? The twists and turns were exciting and when the bad guy was revealed, I couldn't wait for his downfall.

I loved this listen so much! It was a great mystery thriller with a great, albeit morally challenged, main character.

I really hope there is a book two. Jack needs to dispense more of his own brand of justice.

What a riveting read!

What a riveting read! With all the excitement of the very best spy novels, this one takes a different tack. It’s about blackmail. As a profession. And done is an almost righteous way – blackmailing those who are just aren’t ethical or very good specimens of humanity. With all the meticulous planning I loved in The Martian and brilliantly narrated by Tom Jordan – this fast-paced novel was supremely enjoyable. I can’t wait for the next one!
