Publisher's summary

Ethan Penn-Leith is the most renowned poet of his day—his likeness so widely recognized, he is regularly accosted by adoring admirers. Everyone wants something from him—his time, words, charm, torn bits of his kilt . . . Everyone, that is, but Lady Allegra Gilbert.

Twin sister to the authoritarian Duke of Kendall, Lady Allegra fights for freedom from her brother's iron-gripped control. She has a plan for her future, after all, one that does not involve her ducal twin. Ethan Penn-Leith with his knee-melting smiles and boyish charm is merely a pretty distraction along the path to independence.

The problem? Ethan and Lady Allegra once shared a life-altering kiss on a rugged mountain road in Italy when she was disguised as someone else entirely. Ever the poet, Ethan turned their romantic kiss into a scandalous, best-selling poem. Now, all of London is clamoring to know the identity of the poet's unnamed lady.

If she wishes her freedom, Lady Allegra needs to keep her secrets, well . . . secret. Ethan wants nothing more than to uncover all of Allegra's truths.

Ethan and Allegra struggle to decide what they each truly want. Or perhaps, in the end, fate will turn turn on one kiss alone?

Great book!

I've read Ms. Van's books starting with The House of Oak series. Her books are witty and fun with wonderful characters. This series has the same wit and fun of her previous books. One of the things I like about this series is how she brings characters from previous series into the story. The story is great and the narration is wonderful. 5+ Sstars!

A beautiful Scottish love story!

All the stars and all the hearts for this one!! Nichole Van is a master of writing relationships!!

Sibling relationships!!
Allie and Ethan
Forbidden love
Forgiveness
Belonging
Strong Female character
Plenty of Scottish wooing!!
Slow burn

If you haven’t read Nichole Van’s series “The Brotherhood of the Black Tartan” - I recommend binging that series first - as some of the brotherhood live in the same circles as the Penn-Leiths and when they enter the story it’s like a visit with old friends!!

Poetic Love

I loved this story. Ethan is a favorite. All the characters in this series are so fully developed, but none so much as Ethan. He is a cheerful, bright heart throb but is as earnest and true as the words he sets to page. He is charismatic and can work a crowd to swooning, but he separates that Ethan from the one who he carries within him, which the one who lives in the lines of his poetry. The narrator picks up on his nuance and voices his sunny hopeful nature to perfection. The author’s talent is the sort that could produce an epic novel that would be read and loved for generations untold. Her series are a delight, but a true full fledged novel from her is something I’d love to read.

Redemption and Love

It has been a complete joy to listen to these books! I’m so happy book 4 is coming soon! If you could have a favorite narrator, this series narrator would probably be mine!
I always wonder what I can even say to explain how much I love these books, in one word for this one, Ethan. Ethan Penn-Leith was the dreamiest Scott. Malcolm and Fox were the kinda grumpy burly ones and warmed your heart as you got to know them, but Ethan was light. He was happiness. He was goodness. Through his struggles he still brought light to others. I’m SO glad he got his own true lasting happiness!
Lady Allegea or Ally went through horrendous things and I can’t even fathom the eternal hurt, but it completely explains her prickly nature. She is faced with some difficult decisions. But oh how I loved her character arc and how Ethan shows her she doesn’t want Freedom, she wants BELONGING.
Things to Love: Poetry, Twins, Kisses, Determination, Wit, Danger, Intrigue
Favorite Quote:
“When you belong to others you don’t need to escape.”
This book will keep you wanting the next chapter and rooting for each person in their own needs. I am so glad I found Nichole Van books! They are beautifully written and completely immerse you into this world.
