About this listen
"Full of humour and heartwarming moments—Rebecca delivers pure joy!"—Chantel Guertin, bestselling author of It Happened One Christmas
Sometimes you need to take a leap of faith to land exactly where you're meant to be . . .
Miz is not the marrying kind. She's more of the no-strings-attached kind. No labels, only fun. So, when she finds a diamond ring in her casual-but-very-hot hook-up's gym bag, she immediately ends things and runs.
Kal is one of Miz's best friends, an aspiring actor who moved to Toronto from Ethiopia and is on the brink of his big break. But when he's suddenly at risk of having to return home and leave Toronto forever, Miz panics. She can't imagine her life without Kal.
There's only one solution: Miz will marry Kal to become his spousal sponsor. He'll get to keep pursuing his acting career, and she'll get to keep her best friend in the city. It'll be a quick, short only-on-paper marriage between friends, followed by a quick, easy divorce. Nothing will change, and life will go back to normal. Right?
©2025 Rebecca Fisseha (P)2025 Doubleday CanadaCritic reviews
"Only Because It's You proves that sometimes the best relationships are the ones you never see coming."—Chantel Guertin, bestselling author of It Happened One Christmas
"Smart, witty, and full of heart. A refreshing take on the well-loved marriage of convenience trope."—Bal Khabra, USA Today bestselling author of Collide
"A masterful blend of humour and vulnerability that will leave you breathless. Miz and Kal's romance will fill your heart long after the last page!"—Amy Lea, internationally bestselling author of The Catch

Didn't Give What Everyone Said It Gave!!!
- By Annette Williams on 11-23-22
By: Kennedy Ryan
What made this book stand out was the perfect blend of quick wit, deep emotional insight, and relatable, complex characters. The character’s banter was brightened with intelligence, humor, and exciting tension. Oh Kal, he is so calm, brilliant, endlessly patient and was the kind of character I was quietly rooting for (and secretly wish I knew in real life).
The audiobook brought the story to life beautifully. The narrators captured each character's voice with energy and heart, and while a few Amharic pronunciations were slightly off, it didn’t take away from the experience.
A story about friendship, identity, love, and second chances, this book left me smiling, thinking, and wishing I could read it all over again for the first time.
A story about friendship, identity, love, and second chances!
