Publisher's summary

She’s the most important mission of his life.

I know two things with absolute certainty. Second chances don’t come easy. And I’m going to marry Emma Parker.

Ten years ago, I was troubled and angry, looking for an outlet for my rage. To protect the people I love, I made the choice to join the Marines—and leave the love of my life behind.

Emma moved on. But now we’re both back in our hometown, and I’m determined to earn her forgiveness. To show her we belong together. I’ve made loving her my mission, and I’m determined not to fail.

Operation Get Her Back was previously titled Must Be Home.

Second chance romance in Jetty Beach

Overall - 5 stars; Performance - 4.5 stars; Story - 5 stars

If Claire Kingsley writes it, I know I will love it. She always delivers a well-written story that hooks me. Add Rock Engle and Emma Wilder's talented narration and you have a top-notch audiobook! They capture the emotions and transition their voices seamlessly from character to character.

Emma was devastated when Hunter unexpectedly left without a word after high school. 10 years later, she is back in Jetty Beach, trying to get back on her feet after her divorce from her narcissist jerk of an ex-husband. Hunter came home the year before after getting injured in the line of duty. Their chemistry is still going strong and they can't stay away. When Hunter determines he wants to win Emma back and makes his "mission list", it is sweet and funny.

Operation Get Her Back is a quick, fun, and steamy listen! While each book in the Jetty Beach series is a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading/listening to the other books in the series as well.

Great second chance

This was was a reread for me. I loved the way the narration brings it all to life.
Hunter is determined to win back Emma. A great second chance romance. Hunter has a lot to make up for, and he’s got a lot of work to do to even get a chance. Emma has decided she’s done with men. Read it to find out how long that lasts.

Second Chance Romance

Emma and Hunter were high school sweethearts - until Hunter left one night without a word. Now ten years later, she has moved on…and Hunter has moved back. Watching them navigate a relationship after all the hurt and secrets between them was heartbreaking at times. The narrators did a great job giving these emotions a voice. Finally they were able to get to know each other as adults and eventually trust each other enough to be together again.

Second chance done right!

Second chance romance is one of my favorite tropes, but it has to be really well written for me to find it believable. This one was exactly what I needed. It's the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. And I truly wanted to see Hunter and Emma back together... especially once I learned why he left in the first place!

Both Hunter and Emma are great characters. I could definitely hang out with them in real life. Hunter's determination to get Emma back was fantastic, but I also liked that Emma didn't immediately jump into a forever with him. They both changed a lot in the 10 years they were apart, so it was fun to watch them discover each other again while still feeling the spark that never really went away.

The story was fast paced and hard to put down. I needed to see how things would work out for them, and it was so satisfying when it did. There were several swoony sweet moments, but in true Kingsley fashion, they also knew how to bring the heat!

The narration was well done, and I can't wait for more from this series!

Hunter and Emma

I just finished a reread of this book and first time listening to it. I enjoyed this book it doesn't have a bunch of angst or drama which made the book even better for me. Being a Marine wife and mom I enjoy a good book a little more when there is a big strong Marine in it. I could feel Emma's heartache from losing her first love and Hunter's concern of just not being good enough or dangerous to those he loves. I'm glad they found their way back to one another. My only issue for me this time around was the narrator, which has nothing to do with the book, he is just not my cup of tea.

Love the story! From Emma finding herself again to Hunter fixing up the life he left behind, their story shows how some feelings never changes. Also, so good to see previous characters again!

All the feels in this second-chance romance!

When they were 18 years old, Hunter left his high school sweetheart, Emma, in the middle of the night -- no explanation, no note, no goodbye. Ten years later, they both find themselves back in their hometown; his career in the Marines over after an injury and her as a divorceé. Hunter is determined to reclaim Emma's heart, and plans it out like it's his the most important mission of his life. At first, Emma can't forgive and forget about the way Hunter broke her when he disappeared all those years ago, but he slowly breaks her down and she agrees to date him again. But when she discovers the real reason why he left her behind, will Emma ever be able to trust him again?

"It's good to see you, Emma." Oh, Emma's a-ha moment gave me all the feels!

It’s been 6 years since I’ve read this book and I loved it just as much! Having read Claire’s books that have come out since this one, I was pleasantly surprised by the Easter egg of Salishan Cellar Wine from the Miles family series! As for the narrators, Rock Engle and Emma Wilder nailed the performances they gave to Hunter and Emma. This was the first book I've listened to with Rock, and I will most definitely be looking out for more from him.

I received a complimentary copy and voluntarily left an honest review.

Second chance small town romance

Hunter is a former marine, he left Jetty Beach when he was 18 and when he left? He just vanished, leaving an “I’m sorry” note to his adoptive parents, but didn’t say a word to his girlfriend Emma. He’s been home a year in Jetty Beach after a medical discharge and he is still in love with Emma. When he finds out Emma is back in Jetty Beach and single? Well, he comes up with a plan and puts together mission parameters like a true Marine and vows to marry her. Emma though, is harder to woo back than he realized. She still holds onto a lot of pain from how Hunter left and she is pretty bitter on relationships and marriage due to her recent divorce. After a year of fighting for her freedom with divorce, she returns home to find her high school sweetheart. She’s angry, bitter and reluctant to give him or any man a chance again.
I adored Hunter, he is a sexy marine who has been through a lot. Emma…she was hit and miss for me. She’s a sweet girl and funny but the way she holds onto that hurt? I got it in the beginning but by the time we are halfway through the story it was getting old, then we get 75% in and she still won’t let it go? I’m sorry, I was over that part. Hunter made a mistake when he was 18, technically an adult but still a boy in so many ways, and to have that held against him…it was frustrating. I get why she was so hurt and upset, but they should have figured it out at the start of their second chance relationship instead of sweeping it under the rug and ignoring it. But for the most part, that grudge doesn’t show up all that much, so it is a very little complaint. These two were perfect together when that hurt wasn’t focused on or talked about. Their passion for one another was hot, their chemistry sizzled and they were adorable together. They you made me laugh and smile. Literally. Claire Kingsley always writes a fantastic story. The narrators do a fantastic job bringing these two to life. The performance was awesome.

First love and second chances

I loved this second chance, first love, healing romance. This heartwarming and swoony story had a great mix of sweet, spicy, painful pasts, and real life issues. And Hunter’s steady meticulous 5 phase plan and his self-talk was so swoony sweet. Hunter is a former Marine who was medically discharged a year ago and returned home to small town Jetty Beach. Emma is recently divorced and living with her brother in Jetty Beach. Hunter and Emma were HS sweethearts and he broke her heart 10 years ago when he left to join the Marines without an explanation. To get to their HEA they’ll need to be groveling, baggage unpacking, and leaps of faith but I loved going on the journey with Hunter and Emma with all the speed bumps and big feels. The story was well written and included engaging dialogue, characters with dimension who grow and a swoony storyline. I’ll definitely be reading more of this heartwarming series.

Rock Engle and Emma Wilder did a good job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly.
