Publisher's summary

Chosen by his peers as the best Western writer of all time and honored with an unprecedented seven Spur Awards, Elmer Kelton is “one of the giants of the Western genre” (Booklist).

In Other Men’s Horses, a young 1880s Texas Ranger must track down a fugitive who gunned down a notorious horse thief. Reaching the West Texas town where Donley Bannister was last spotted, Ranger Andy Pickard follows Bannister’s trail across treacherous, unforgiving terrain. But when outlaws ambush Pickard, Bannister risks his life to rescue his pursuer—instead of high-tailing it in the opposite direction—and provides life-saving medical care. As Pickard recovers, he realizes how beholden he is to Bannister and wishes he weren’t duty-bound to bring him to justice. While unexpected twists propel listeners toward an explosive conclusion, Jonathan Davis’ gripping narration captures the vivid characterization and Old West flavor of this Kelton classic.

Well written

A good story line with well developed characters. Continues a good series with lots of future possibilities.

No Focus

Here is another example of a rambling storyline with no focus, very little action, and endless jibber.

Ok Book. But the Narration was so good, he would make this telephone book interesting

I enjoyed listening to this book in short spurts. Mostly because I enjoyed the narration so much. There were lots of gaps and plot turns that were silly. You know all the women were beautiful, and the main characters were good looking. It wasn’t plausible. The best part of the whole book, was when Geneva meets two brothers who play the violin in the harmonica. That’s the book I want to read next about them two old boys. And I’m very dissatisfied that Geneva never gave Jeremiah any of the money she got from Curly. So whatever happened to him, he’s left to struggle, and lost everything that mattered to him. I pray he took that rifle.
