About this listen

In the shouted words of a woman bound for Auschwitz to a man about to escape from a cattle car, "If you get out, maybe you can tell the story! Who else will tell it?"

Our Crime Was Being Jewish contains 576 vivid memories of 358 Holocaust survivors. These are the true, insider stories of victims, told in their own words. They include the experiences of teenagers who saw their parents and siblings sent to the gas chambers; of starving children beaten for trying to steal a morsel of food; of people who saw their friends commit suicide to save themselves from the daily agony they endured. The recollections are from the start of the war - the home invasions, the Gestapo busts, and the ghettos - as well as the daily hell of the concentration camps and what actually happened inside.

Six million Jews were killed in the Holocaust, and this hefty collection of stories told by its survivors is one of the most important books of our time. It was compiled by award-winning author Anthony S. Pitch, who worked with sources such as the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum to get survivors' stories compiled together and to supplement them with images from the war. These memories must be told and held on to so what happened is documented; so the lives of those who perished are not forgotten; so history does not repeat itself.

Everyone should listen and KNOW

To know this could happen and especially in such a short period of time is eye-opening. How can humans be so cruel. I hate to even think that things are happening like this in parts of the world today. Like North Korea, China, Russia, Middle East, etc. Please educate yourselves, don't be sheep. Don't say you cannot do anything.

Important to know what man is capable of

I applaud the effort these survivors put into sharing their stories. I wonder how strong or brave I would have been.

Shocking, sad, a real eye opener!!

It never fails to shock me how horrible we can treat our fellow human beings!
People think it could never happen again, I believe it could happen right here in America!

Powerful collection of Jewish voices.

This is probably the most detailed personal account of the Holocaust I have ever read.

It seems wrong to give these stories any ⭐️'s.

I thought I knew the full story of what happened to the Jewish people during World War II, but I was wrong. Shocking. It's beyond comprehension how a society... a continent could allow this to happen. The stories are heart wrenching and extremely hard to listen to. These stories should not receive any stars as they never, ever should've happened in the first place. My heart goes out to the families who suffered, and may still suffer as a result of these atrocities. Be advised, you'll need a strong stomach to listen to this book.

Story must be told

Wanted to put it down many times because of the horrendous stories during the Holocaust… but two survivors stories told we must read or listen , they experienced it… we just have to read or listen…many times it took my breathe away…however, we must listen and read the stories because this can NEVER happen again…!

So noone forgets "till the Messiah comes

To hear what so many went through during those dark times in the camps and the days of Holocaust humbles one.
I have heard many stories from family that served in the European theater and from Friends that endured the camps, but just the sheer number of stories here makes me weep.
