About this listen

My beautiful boy.... Created in love.... Born into hatred.

There were so many terrifying stories about the Jews. People called them useless vermin, filthy, dangerous. Before I met Abram, I was afraid of them, too. But I am about to tell you a very different story—a forbidden story.

My love for Abram defied all reason...as well as German law.

Tonight our son giggles with excitement as he blows out the candles on his birthday cake. But our safety is nothing but an illusion. As his candles burn out, a window shatters outside. The room shudders as the synagogue down the street is engulfed in flames.

Kristallnacht has begun.

When my hidden paradise crumbles like a stack of cards, I must do everything in my power to protect that which is most precious to me. My son's secret must remain hidden.

Before we lose everything.

This book held my attention every moment, however I was disappointed in the abrupt ending. I’m looking forward to answers in the next book.

The story was captivating

history repeats itself. in the midst of so much hate, there are good people.

What an amazing book! This is the second time I’m listening to this series. Man I couldn’t put it downnnn. Knowing the last final twist in the third book hearing about one character is a completely different experience. You will not regret giving this a listen!

Relistening to this series.

Couldn’t put this book down, it’s a very good read. Just wished I had found out what happened to the boy before the book ended

Interesting view of love between the two groups of people and how the heroine learned that the prejudice against the Jews was created propaganda.

Conflict between Jewish and nazis

Example: While giving birth, Kara tells her "mother-in law" she wishes her sister was with her at that moment. During a conversation between the two characters in the very next chapter, the mother-in-law says, "I didn't know you had a sister." REALLY? This kind of sloppiest is throughout the book and it drives me crazy. If the author can't keep her information straight within a single work, I don't have much faith in her maintaining consistency throughout a series. I won't be wasting my time to find out.

There was no ending and the way in which it ended was as if the author couldn’t think what to write next. I’ve read plenty of holocaust books with tragic, sad endings but this book felt unfinished

Book finished mid story
