About this listen

Sometimes paradise isn’t all it’s cracked up to be....

"That’s what I, Kylie McGraw, have discovered since sacrificing my dreams of traveling the world to run the family shoe store. But if I have my way, peaceful Eden, Indiana, is in for a major shake-up….

"It all began on my birthday, when I got drunk and disorderly all over Eden’s hunky new police chief (and my former high-school crush), Jack Reynolds. Then I may have, in my Cosmo haze, witnessed a murder in progress. Now I’m almost certain I’m being stalked by the mob, while he-of-the-distracting-abs Jack continues to think I’m nuts. However, there comes a time when a girl has to kick off her sensible shoes (size 7, cushion insoles) and go after what she wants. So if I can just survive long enough to put on my sexy new red heels, that’s exactly what I intend to do…."

Nice story overshadowed by poor narration!

Usually, if I dislike a narrator I dislike the voice they use for every character. In this case, the narrator generally did fine on every character except the heroine. I can usually deal with a poorly narrated minor character, but if I cannot tolerate the voice of the main character, I cannot finish the book. I did not finish this book.

The story itself is good, the reader is awful!

This is the first book I have read or listened to from this author. I really enjoyed the story and would have rated it higher if not for the reader. It took me most of the book to get used to the main guy, Jacks voice, but found myself seriuously wanting to turn the story off because of the main girls voice. This is supposed to be a love story, I don't want to hear what sounds like a grown man hooking up with a twelve year old girl! I realize Kylie is supposed to be the good and innocent girl in town, but please, she is 32 years old. The reader did ok during the narration parts, I don't know why she couldn't have read the main character in her normal voice. I felt like she read all of the different characters in varying degrees of annoyingness, but none more so than Kylies voice. If you can get past her reading, it really is a good book, I will check out more from this author for sure, just maybe not in audio format if done by this narrator!

Great story but...

The story itself was wonderful. Ciotta is an awesome story teller. As for the performance of the narrator, I would have really preferred that the heroine not sound like a three year old especially when she is suppposed to be in her thirties. Other than that, all of the other characters were really well done.

Buy another book

This was an awful book only to be surpassed by the worst narration I have ever heard. I waxed between hysterical laughter and revulsion.
The main characters' voices were Minnie Mouse and Guido from Jersey. No, really. There was a subplot that played into every stupid stereotype you have ever heard before.
