About this listen

A string of copycat crimes leads a reporter down a terrifying path in a heart-stopping thriller by New York Times best-selling author T. R. Ragan.

Crime reporter Sawyer Brooks still grieves for the family she and her two sisters never had. Raised in a house of horrors, they continue to fight through the trauma - releasing their rage by seeking justice for those who are just as vulnerable as they were.

When a little girl’s bones are unearthed in Sacramento’s Land Park and 12-year-old Riley Addison disappears, solving these cases becomes an obsession for Sawyer - one that puts her job at risk. Yet she can’t turn back, and the deeper Sawyer’s investigation goes, the darker it gets. A psychopath is on the loose and has been trolling Sacramento for years - hiding in plain sight behind a motherly façade.

The more Sawyer persists, the closer she gets to a disturbing place reminiscent of her own terrorized childhood. With time running out, Sawyer will risk anything to save Riley from the dark. But the killer will do anything to keep her there.

Sawyer Brooks is a criminal investigative reporter. She is like a dog with a bone. Once involved, obsessed until she solves the case. She was an abused child, her uncle molested her for years. Her parents knew and in fact were involved in covering up her own father’s sexual depravity. Sawyer survived but she will always be obsessed when little girls are involved. The book opens with a woman kidnapping a girl and shoving her into her van. It is chilling and the reader knows it only grows more intense from here. I listened to audible and the narrator, Jennica Damon, brings the characters to life. She depicts the evil and craziness of the kidnapper to perfection, right down to the sweater she wears. It is a creepy story but one that you can’t let go until you finish the book. A sub plot but equally creepy is the vigilante group tagged ‘the black wigs’ who are out to get revenge over the men who raped them but didn’t get punished. So far, the members of this group are unknown by the police. Stay tuned because the next book in this terrific series is due out in May 2021. I have it on my list. Start with Book 1 and catch up. Author has other series which I plan to check out. It is a great read.

Thriller - A Girl Is Taken—Sawyer Must Solve Case

When investigative reporter Sawyer Brooks learns that a child's bones were found buried in a local park, she starts looking into the story. The same day, twelve-year-old Riley Addison disappears while walking to her bus stop. Worried citizens and local police are searching everywhere; but have found no sign of her. As Sawyer tries to find any information that will lead to Riley, she discovers that there may have been a psychopath picking off young girls for the last several years.

This is the second book in the Sawyer Brooks series. I thought this story was much better than the previous book in the series. Along with Sawyer's investigation into Riley Addison and other missing girls, she is also hearing rumors about a possible female vigilante group in the area. "The Crew" consists of five women who were raped and/or molested several years ago. Now they have banded together to get pay-back against the men who wronged them.

I enjoyed Riley's story, especially getting her point-of-view while being held against her will. The sections about the vigilante group were interesting; but these women make elaborate plans that they can't seem to carry out properly. Something always goes wrong.

I listened to the audiobook. The narrator, Jennica Damon, did a fine job.

I love these characters. I can’t wait to read the next. Sawyer is the best crime reporter. Her tragic past and pain drives her to save others and the author weaves these mysteries expertly. Very engaging! Excellent narration!

I love this series. I recommend!

An investigative reporter, with history of childhood abuse, is determined to break a case of missing young girls. Can she catch the killer before it’s too late for the latest victim? Meanwhile, her sister is part of a vigilante group and her life is unraveling. The storyline is captivating and I look forward to the next book to find out if the ‘Black Wig’ ladies are caught.
Narrator does a wonderful job with each character.

This book is sooo good!

and doesn’t deviate. This is a very good book with a super story line. My only complaint is that it sounds too familiar. This author has written a few series, all good but they also sound the same. A group of wronged individuals get together to right the injustices either done to them or similar being done to others. All involved use nicknames to represent their emotional connection to the crimes being committed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book just wish Ragan would change her format so each series would not have such a deja vu effect.
Jennica Damon does a great job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I am enjoying this series quite a bit. It’s been a while that I’ve read a book and liked so many characters. Writers these days want to give their characters way too many unlikable traits and calls them “flaws.” Thankfully the characters here are a nice balance that you can and want to root for them. The main character, while heroic, doesn’t have a big head always shows gratitude to those that help her. I also love the elation ship with the sisters.
The story has a nice unfolding of the kidnapping and continuing storyline about the wig group. Wondering what will happen to Harper. Also interesting here is that the story tells darker tales in a lighter way, and it works great for me. This series has turned out to be an effortless page turner! Looking forward to the next installment.
Narration by Jennica Damon is also superb! I will look for more with this reader/actor.

Quite Enjoyable Great Continuation to the Series
