About this listen

Conspiracies. Corruption. Serial killers.

You name it - I'm fascinated by it. My mom always blamed my overly curious and highly suspicious mind on my dad.

My incredibly overbearing dad.

Mr. No One Is Good Enough For My Daughter has been terrifying my dates since I turned 15.

College is my chance to be free from his control and date any guy I want.

I'm absolutely certain he would hate Slade Wylder - almost as certain as I am that I do too.

Since when have I shied away from trouble?

Slade fascinates me. He lives in a house I'm certain is haunted. His dog is trained as well as any guard I've ever seen. Rumor on campus is that he deals drugs. It would explain a lot.

But it doesn't explain why he saves me from my darkest moment.

It doesn't explain why I can't stop thinking about him.

And the explanation I finally discover is far more dangerous than any rumor.

Out of Love is a stand-alone novel in the highly-acclaimed Jack & Jill Series.

This book is AMAZING! Do not miss this one!

I don't even know where to begin. Oh. My. Gosh. EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK!!!😍 I wanted to slow down to savor this book, but I physically couldn't! Livy is a smart, loving, curious girl who loves to surf. She has an over protective father, who cracks me up! My husband would so be him! She finally escapes his protective nature when she goes off to college. It's her senior year and she knows exactly what she wants in life. Meet my FOREVER book boyfriend Wylder. He is a quiet, loner who only has his dog Jericho, that he takes with him everywhere. This is all Wylder has ever known and sees nothing wrong with it. He lives in the "firehouse" on her street that is rumored to be haunted. Jericho is the most amazing dog. I've never been a dog person, but now I want a German Shepherd! Jericho has my heart! Livy first meets Wylder in class when she is late and he scowled at her. She is curious why he has his dog with him in class. There are so many rumors flying about him. Where he's been the last few years, his job and why he has a dog with him. Curiosity can't keep Livy away. She keeps poking the bear...will he snap or will they become friends. This book is absolutely AMAZING! I think my favorite book EVER! And that's out of 50 that I have read this year! It has everything! I am trying so hard not to spoil anything because the journey is truly spectacular! Hilarious dialog and banter, super emotional, swoon worthy, heart stopping and epic love story! What would you do for Love? I started it and couldn't stop! I read all day neglecting my responsibilities (kind of...I fed my kids, that's enough) and was up till 2am finishing it and I didn't want it to end! I listened to the audiobook by Stefanie Kay and she was PERFECT! I was worried reading a book with dual POV and only one narrator, but she did such a fantastic job! Her delivery and change in her voice was just right. I will definitely look for more books narrated by her. I can't wait to listen to it again! Don't miss this one!!!

4.5 Breathtaking Stars!

This romantic suspense was an exciting thrill ride with twists and turns, fun banter, and lots of sizzling passion! I was riveted from the very beginning and loved the expert way that Jewel E. Ann challenged our imagination, had our hearts racing as we laughed, cried and fell madly for these unforgettable and wonderfully flawed characters. Livy is finally at college and away from her overprotective father. She is instantly intrigued and overly curious about this mysterious man named Slade Wylder, and his dog in her class. Rumour has it he is dangerous and lives in the haunted house across the road from her. She isn't afraid of the broody, mysterious man with the sexy smolder. She tries to friend him and his dog no matter how hard he tries to push her away. But when mysterious events happen, putting her life in danger, Wylder suddenly becomes her reluctant champion. Wylder can't deny the pull he feels for the strong, smart and witty Livy. As they spend more time together, their attraction heats up, and they can't stay away from each other. They have fun together, and their chemistry is off the charts! But everything is not as it seems, and soon Livy's world gets turned upside down, and her life is on the line. Livy's trust is put to the test, and there are too many secrets that could tear them apart, breaking both their hearts. This exciting and passionate story was fun, heartstopping, and sexy. Livy and Wylder are so explosive together, and their chemistry leaps right off the page.
I really enjoyed Stefanie Kay's narration as she delivered all the emotion, wit, suspense, and steam. I was totally lost in her performance as she brought these characters and story to life. I really enjoyed, and couldn't stop listening to this fun, heart-pounding, and steamy romance!

Conflicted

3.5 stars
There were so many things to like about this book. The flawless writing. The mystery and intrigue. The incredible dynamics between Livy Knight and Slade Wylder. It was all so good!! And these characters, l could not get enough of them - Livy especially. Loved her! If I were to rate this book on the first three-quarters, it would have been a sure 5 star read.

But that ending.. I really really did not like that ending. Such a let down. Let's forget the fact that it broke my heart. Gah! All the pain. My main issue and I know this is a personal preference but I haaaaate long separations. My ratings will go down every time I come across one. In Out of Love's case, I get why the author felt like there needed to be a five year gap in order to advance the story. However, the introduction of another woman and a marriage, nope, I can't get onboard with that. It left such a bad taste in my mouth. I was ready to be done with this story.

As for the narration, Stefanie Kay did a great job bringing these characters to life. I loved her performance of Livy. Of course, I wish we had a male narrator for the Wylder and Jackson pov chapters but really it wasn't a big deal. I still liked it.

Overall, conflicted. That's the best way to describe myself after reading Out of Love by Jewel E Ann. I really wanted to like this book. And for the most part I did. There were just some factors that left me disappointed.

Out Of Love Leaves You Breathless!!!

Out of Love is my first book I've listened to by this new to me author. I was intrigued by the synopsis and once I started listening from the beginning the ambience brings mystery and suspense and have me glued to my earbuds. The characters are well fleshed out, her writing style is captivating, world building descriptions and settings are vivid and well detailed and her story plot writing is compelling. The perplexity of Slades character is thought-provoking and he never slated from it throughout the whole book. Livy's strong-willed, beatnik, and unwavering personality was highly entertaining. A romantic suspense thriller with unexpected twists, sultry passion and cute banter weaved into the suspense. The epilogue brought the story to an explosive climax. I love how it ended.

Narrator Stephanie Kaye single naratiion of a dual pov story was good, however my preference for dual pov is two person performance cast. However, Stephanie is a talented narrator and did a wonderful performance of voicing the characters. Her tone shifted with the circumstances and her inflection changed to fit the characters. I enjoyed her intonation and found it exhilarating to listen to.

Awesome story and narration.

Emotional book packs a punch

I knew when I had the chance to listen to Out of Love, I had to take it. Apparently it's a spin off of the Jack and Jill series, but let me tell you that you absolutely do NOT need to read those books to appreciate this one. I expected this book to be good, but I got so much more. I got some laughs, some intense emotions, lies and secrets, and an undeniable chemistry between the characters.
The very beginning of this audiobook showed Livy during her earlier years. She likes boys and she likes to push her dad's buttons. He is overprotective to the max, but she just wants to live a normal high school type life. Unfortunately, her dad is having none of that. When she gets to college, she is no longer under his thumb and enjoying it. Times with her friends and roommates and surfing to the max, along with doing well in school. But once the mysterious guy with the German Sheppard that sits at the back of one of her classes catches her eye, she is intrigued. He's cold and calculated. Standoffish vibes. Doesn't really talk much, but his dog Jericho is the one that sets a bridge between the characters.

Slade lives in the firehouse right across the street from Livy. There are rumors about that house and Livy wants to find out more about it AND about Slade. Even when Livy slowly starts to break through Slade's barriers, they still have some sort of wall between them. Their relationship is a weird one, but you can feel their chemistry. It's there on the surface and I always wanted to know more about both of them. You could feel there were secrets and lies (if I had read the other books, I may have connected some dots, but like I said, it wasn't necessary). The more you learn about the characters, the more layers you peel away and you want to fight for them and see what could be. But with the past as it is, these two were destined to never be.

Out of Love had the romance, but it also had the mystery/suspense vibe with a fair amount of action going on. There are parts that will make you laugh (Livy loves to push buttons) and there are parts that are heartbreaking. Jewel E Ann gets in your head as the characters and makes you feel for them. The writing was beautifully done and the pacing was just right. And that Jericho stole the scenes he was in. That dog was totally a major part of this book and you can't deny him and the role he played.
The little bit I had issues with was the fast forward 5 years. That part actually hurt me and broke me. I just couldn't imagine the pain and emotions and lies between all the characters.
For the audio, I really enjoyed the narrator, but wondered why they didn't include a male narrator for Slade's parts and for her dad's parts. It didn't really make sense. Luckily, Stefanie Kay does a great job with her male voice that it didn't pull me out much. It was just a questionable move to have dual POV (heavy on Livy) but not have a male voice for the male POVs.
With all that said, I would give Out of Love somewhere between a 4 and a 5 star so I’m rounding that up to 5. It's well written. The characters and their journey moved at a comfortable speed, and the emotions you go through in this book will run you dry. Everything good I would look for is in this book. These characters and their love is something else. I may just go back and read the Jack and Jill series now.

Every Jewel book is a five star read.

I whole heartedly believe that every book Jewel E Ann writes is perfection. This woman knows how to write relationships of every kind. Some take you out of your comfort zone. Some you may find are so out of your wheelhouse that it’s difficult to commiserate with what a character may say, do, or act. Some are like reading about yourself on the page. Regardless (or maybe because ) of that, every book will hit you right in the feels while simultaneously giving you some laughs. Every character is flawlessly developed, and while it may at first seem as if a trope is a familiar one, she takes it to a place others authors don’t often do. Every one of her books has me thinking about it long after, and I have read them all numerous times. She is hands down my favorite author and I can say with complete honesty she is the only author that I have given 5 stars to every book she’s written, even her earliest works when most authors are honing their skills. Please note, I do not personally know Jewel, will probably never ever meet her, and I realize may seem like an obsessed weirdo, but for real, something about her writing makes me ignore all responsibilities and just read, read, read until unfortunately the book ends. I’m in awe of her brain and so appreciate that she decided to share it with all of us. Do I like some narrators of her books more than others? Sure, but even my least favorite one can’t hide how great the stories are. Waiting for the next release is the hardest part, but it’s always worth it.

Lots of Twists

This one is different but it worked in the end. Speaking of ending, I did not like the last twist but I did love the epilogue.

hard to rate

the book for the most part was good, we'll written, interesting stories and characters, but I HATE how it ended. like really did not like it, and it kind of spoiled the book as a whole for me. this author always does some big dramatic stuff, and this book definitely has it, I just don't want to explain why I didn't like it, so I don't spoil the story. the narator was really good, no problems there.

I think Jewel E Ann just became my new addiction!

Out of Love is a spin of to another of her series. One that I'll read ASAP, because yeah... I've listened to this book without reading Jack and Jill first... I didn't knew it was related to other series, until I was really interested in Livy's Dad (Jackson Knight) own story!

But back to this book and Livy and Wylder's story... I just love it!
It's a classical case of sunshine girl and grumpy guy, but at the same time, it's full of mystery, emotions, assassins, twists and turns.

She was intrigued by him and his German Shepard, that accompanied him even during their college classes, so as a curious sunshine, she tried to make a friend out of him... Well... That didn't go too well for her... At least not at first (or second).

Until something bad happens, and the one that didn't even spares her a glance before, was the one to save her from an attack.

Their relationship evolved from annoying neighbors, to some kind of mutual love for his dog, to an undeniable attraction, that they couldn't stop feeling.

Slade Wylder was hot, mysterious, quiet, grumpy and he practically didn't say nothing to Livy other than bark a few threats, but I could understand her drawn to him as a moth to a flame!
What can I say? I'm a lost cause when it comes to the broken silence and mysterious bad boy.

But he held many secrets... As much as her dad, and those secrets probably weren't a secret to those who read Jack and Jill series, but to me? Holy cow! Her dad did really a bunch of questionable things at the end, and took protectives to a whole new level!

Jericho (the dog) is almost like another main character, and I loved all the scenes that he was in it!

It was a great story and I couldn't put it down! I still have a couple of questions aftee that end... But I guess that those questions where purposely left unanswered...

About the audiobook...
The narration was by a single woman, and again, I did prefer when I have male narrator for the Male POV chapters, so she did a great job bringing in the emotions and the right tones into the story, but her male voice isn't of an alpha male like Wylder or Jackson, so I missed their voices.
