Dylan First, a brilliant psychologist, is haunted by the horrific discovery of her past. Her mentor and father figure, a brilliant psychiatrist and professor, was secretly a serial killer. He is behind bars, but with everything Dylan thought she knew turned upside down, she feels lost when the FBI suddenly comes knocking. A new killer is using her mentor’s trademark signature. And they need Dylan to dissect his mind and stop him before it’s too late.
Out of Reach is the first book in a new series by best-selling mystery and suspense author Kate Bold, whose best-seller Not Me (a free download) has received over 1,500 five star ratings and reviews.
A harrowing crime thriller featuring a brilliant and tortured FBI agent, the Dylan First series is a riveting mystery, packed with non-stop action, suspense, twists and turns, revelations, and driven by a breakneck pace that will keep you listening late into the night. I was so pleased with the Alexa Chase stories, that I thought this series would also prove to be just as good but it simply wasn’t. The premise of the book sounded interesting enough, and I thought because of that the writing would reflect this. The details , or lack thereof, didn’t encapsulate me the way they had with the other books. I think maybe there was too much happening at the start and not enough backstory to back it up because I didn’t feel particularly attached to any of the characters.
I also wasn’t that crazy about the person who voiced the audiobook. Her character voices and their accents were all over the place, which made it distracting to keep up with. Hopefully, some of the other book series from this author are better. Overall, not really worth the read nor interesting enough.
