About this listen

Katherine and Jean-Michel once shared a deep love that was torn apart by forces beyond their control. Reunited in the 1920s at the Curry Hotel in Alaska, have the years changed them too deeply to rediscover what they had? And when Jean-Michel's nightmares of war return with terrifying consequences, will faith be enough to heal what's been broken for so long?

After the death of their father, Collette and Jean-Michel Langelier are no longer tied to post-war France. While his sister dreams of adventure, Jean-Michel is hoping to finally escape reminders of the horrors he faced in the war. When Jean-Michel receives an unexpected invitation for them to visit Alaska and the Curry Hotel, it seems an opportunity for a change he needs.

Katherine Demarchis is a young widow who does not grieve the dangerous husband she was forced to marry. Now she just wants to retreat to a quiet life, content to be alone. First, though, she's agreed to accompany her grandmother on a final trip, but never expects to see a man from her past.

All new story

The story was the 2nd in a series. I enjoyed it because it had an altogether new story line. It was nice to see some of the old characters touched on in the years following the first story. It kept my interest.

Good Christian book!!

I really enjoy Christian books such as this one where there is no swearing or sexual content, it was a clean story filled with love, laughter, fear, and the recognition of their need for God! The characters were each trying to find their way to the only real solution to their pain-filled pasts - the need for God in their lives. I very much enjoyed this book! Thank you!

Christian Historical Romance

Another Fabulous story of healing, forgiveness, finding your path, and being embraced by the arms of our loving Creator and Father! There were many French phrases that were said and translated into English in an easy and pleasant way. There was also some Gaelic spoken and a Scottish accent. I can't speak for the authenticity of each character's speech, but everything else from the narration was superb!

Wonderful story!!!!

The narrator was tremendous! She was able to narrate with a French accent & a Scottish brogue! Great book! (i didnt like the last sentence of the book talking about the Phoenix coming out of the ashes... That is from the occult, it has nothing to do with Christianity!)

A great story!

Book 2 in this series was well read and interesting how we internalize our bad memories and emotions.
Of course I always like when love conquers all. Can’t wait to hear the next one.

Lovely Story!

This was a wonderful story about the trials and joys of life! It has an exciting storyline with very real main characters who suffer from tragic pasts. It's a romantic, sweet story of faith, redemption, and the healing power of God's love. I may have shed a tear or two ... it is so touching!

To religious

I got the book because it was part of the series. And this book just got a little bit too religious for me. It was all I could do to get to the end. I also found the book hard to follow and put the different stories together. Not for me, but it could be for somebody else. That’s just my personal opinion.

Psychological Thriller vs Psychological Bore

Out of the Ashes

I do enjoy a book where one of the characters are suffering from a psychological trauma of one kind or another. Their journey from hurt to healing encourages all of us. But not one where almost all are in major emotional trauma. Chef Johnson should have arrived in the book earlier and have more happy scenes. He was the bright spot in this book of woe and whiners. Out of the Ashes has too many traumas for me. It also seems to be the book the author used to write off taxes with her summer vacation. I almost choked my phone several times while listening to the telling of vacation sites. But, I’m trying another Peterson and maybe woodhouse book hoping for a better plot.

Cute parts but jumps a lot

Good “God” message but author will act like she is going to lead up to something then it just jumps forward a few days and it’s over. Ex: they got influenza then they didn’t and it was happy every after.
