Publisher's summary

Rollicking new release from humorous historical romance author Jen Turano.

Miss Gertrude Cadwalader hoped her position as the paid companion to Mrs. Davenport would be easy. But as she becomes acquainted with her employer, she realizes the wealthy Mrs. Davenport has a strange tendency to be a bit light-fingered with other people's trinkets. Gertrude is relieved when Mrs. Davenport decides to have a quiet summer away from the social scene - until the woman changes her mind in order to help a young socialite launch into society.

When Gertrude is caught in the act of trying to return one of the trinkets by Mrs. Sinclair, the mother of shipping magnate Harrison Sinclair, the woman jumps to an unfortunate conclusion. Harrison is determined to mend fences with Miss Cadwalader, but he's unprepared for the escapades a friendship with her will entail.

Delightful clean read

This was a delightful clean listen. I really enjoyed it. it is sorta stand alone but i think i would have enjoyed it even more had i listened to the first book in the series first since the characters are in this story too and i got the impression that the relationship that bloomed in this one, started in the first one.

The characters are well rounded and believable. i would love to read or listen to the other books in this series. The narrator was also easy to listen to.

i was gifted a credit to review this book and give it and honest review, this is my honest review.

Love! Love! Love!

I loved this book the first time I heard it and more each time I hear it. ( I've listened to it at least a dozen times more.)The characters are quirky, sweet, brave, unique, and loveable. There are some very serious subjects tackled in this story. Jen Turano handles them with sensitivity yet still fills the story with humor. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Out of the Ordinary

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. I did not get the chance to listen to the first book so many of the references in this one made me want to know what went on in book 1. But you will enjoy this story without the first book. The paid companion loves her employer and understands her propensity to pick up things that don't belong. This story has several HEAs and is filled with the craziness that comes along with people who feel they can say or do anything to anyone and get away with it. But it also shows how love conquers all. This story is filled with humor and I laughed throughout the whole story. The narrator did a great job and brought out all of the emotions. This is a feel-good story that will make your day.

Light and Fun...Wholesome

I enjoyed 'Out of the Ordinary'. Author Jen Turano writes fun characters and enjoys humor. I pictured Audrey Hepburn playing the leading Lady (Gertrude) and Colin Furth as (Harrison). As I said in the title, this is a clean, wholesome story. No worries if listening to the story while others are around. I like to listen while sewing, crochet/knit, basically, doing something.

Narrator Lauren Ezzo speaks clearly and with great articulation. She does not distinguish between young ladies (Gertrude, Temperance, Permilia, or Constance) nor the men (Harrison, Asher, Garrison). But you know when a female is speaking versus a male is speaking. The author takes care of letting you know which character is talking. I enjoyed her voice and storytelling (except for audible gasps)

Ms. Turano creates a fun cast of characters. The story lines were easy to follow. I liked that there were more than one story line. It lead to a bit of mystery. Unfortunately, much of the humorous situations fell flat. I'm not sure if this was due to the delivery of the narration or because there were too many in a scene that I didn't have time to appreciate them. I'd have to try reading the book versus the audiobook.

I only gave the performance 3 stars (no option for 3.5) due to the loud gasps throughout both dialog and narration. The majority were oddly placed and distracting. There were also a handful of mispronounced words. I would definitely listen to other productions by Ms. Ezzo, but I would first listen to the sample. If there are gasps, I would pass. From her samples on Audible, this is not her normal narration style. I'm not sure why she chose this style for this particular book.

I was given a free copy of the audiobook. It was a pleasure to review. I would recommend both author and narrator.

Absolutely delightful!

This was a fantastic second book for the, Apart from the Crowd, series. I loved every minute.
Turano, has captured my attention in a big way. Each caricature is well rounded, with strong personalities. As with the first book, this one has a clean love story, strong female caricatures, plenty of things to chuckle about, and a bit of mystery. I will now eagerly await more of her books to be made into audiobook form.
I received this book for free, in return for my honest review.

I love Jen’s books

Jen Turano has an unbelievable way of creating romance, mystery and comedy all wrapped up in her stories.
Her books are such a wonderful way to rid one’s self of gloom.
I have laughed my head off with this story. All the characters are amazing especially the Huxlie sisters.
Asher is another of my favorite characters along with Harrison and his color blindness.
There are many morals also to Jen’s stories. It is a way of evaluating oneselfs in a fun and clean way.
I have listened to this one several times and highly recommend it.

Thoroughly surprise!!!!!

I must admit that I was not a fan of the 1st book of the series but I was thoroughly surprised and enjoyed the 2nd book. The narrator as always was very enjoyable and this book was much more funnier.

Great story

I love this story! It was uplifting and well thought out. Definitely would recommend.

The only negative is that midway through the recording it repeats a passage.
