Pain has a permanent address

I had a hard time with this book. The story was good, but the volume went up and down at will.As soon as I would turn it up,I would be blasted with loud volume then it would be nearly inaudible! Michael Sharp seemed to be a good narrator, aside from the afore mentioned issue.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

What a difference a good narrator makes!

What a difference a good narrator makes! I found Michael Sharp made listening to this book so much more pleasurable, then Bk 3... I found that Andrew was also pretty cagey in this mystery and he kept me interested all the way to the end... actually he may have been a little too cagey, as I'm still scratching my head... I'm still not super fond of Andrew's writing style, the choices his characters make, and some of the predicaments he puts them into seem rather nonsensical at times...
I felt that this was probably written as an homage to the great detective, Sherlock Holmes' Hound of the Baskerville... but, you don't need to take my word for it, grab the book and see what you think!

Riveting

As a disclaimer, I have been offered a copy of this book for the sake of an honest review.

I have listened to a few of Andrew Hixson's John Handful mysteries before tackling this episode, and I must say that this one is my favourite.

Both the writing and the tone of the narration by Michael Sharp are spot on. The character development of John can be felt throughout this harrowing thriller, and the chapters end in a number of clear, if sometimes small, cliffhangers that keep you wanting more.

I really recommend this book, as I feel it is pivotal to the John Handful Mysteries serie.

The John Hayneville mysteries or one of my favorite book Siri‘s and in this one pain has a permanent address he has pushed it up a notch. He had me guessing until the end although I kind of thought I knew who did it but wasn’t certain. I cannot wait to read book 5 it looks so good. I have read every book so far. I can’t recommend these books enough.Twist and more twists!

How many times can a character get beat up

And that should be the title of the book. The PI Handful seems to lurch from one beating to another. Then in the end there is a reveal but I don’t get it. The quality of the recording is tinny.

so so

Received a bonus code for an honest review. Narrator did an excellent job. The story rather dragged. I will not be looking for others in the series.

Interesting piece

I had a bit of a rough time getting into the story at first. Once it got going, couldn’t put it down.

Well done.

Stranger things have happened...

This quick story follows Handful, as a consultant PI to the Constabulary, investigating a case that puts John at odds with the Constable. Another enjoyable mystery.

Twists & Turns!

I have enjoyed Andrew Hixson's diabolical plot twists in this book. You just can not anticipate the plotline of the book. You may have a general idea of who the culprit is... only to be thwarted by the twists in the plot until all is revealed.

I listened via Audible, but I did have 1 small issue. And while it wouldn't be that noticable to most, I am a bit odd this way when listening. I noticed that an event occurred with in the storyline that a couple of future chapters in production seemed to ignore in an odd way. It doesn't necessarily detract from the Audible version (and I understand it isn't an issue in the Kindle at all) but it threw me for a second, and the researcher that I am, I had to go back and forth for a bit to figure out if I missed something to account for it.

Outside of the stated flaw above, Michael Sharp did a great job with characters and vocals, as well as emotions and inflections which made the story so very fascinating. I believe the flaw mentioned, after conversing with Mr. Hixson, was an editing in production issue, so I won't necessarily ding him badly for it. Maybe just a star....😉
