About this listen

In an instant, an EMP attack plunges the nation into chaos.

Young parents Ethan and Brooke Spencer are on a romantic ski vacation in the Rockies when the lights go out, cars stall, and communications fail. Stranded 800 miles from home, they are desperate to return to their four-year-old twins and are willing to do whatever it takes to reach them.

When the lights go out, ordinary parents find themselves facing the end of the world as they know it. With chaos everywhere and society collapsing before their eyes, they'll have to risk everything to get home to the people they love.

Panic in the Rockies is book one in the Desperate Age Series, a high-octane, post-apocalyptic EMP survival series perfect for fans of Jack Hunt, Grace Hamilton, E. E. Isherwood, and Ryan Schow.

I’m a little obsessed currently

I discovered that I really enjoy and so have been listening to End of the World Series for much of 2024. These were my 25th-30th books in the genre.

I liked this series, the story was entertaining and held my interest. I plowed through all 5 books within just a couple days, I did find that I was a bit irritated by the women in this story. I admit that their reactions and the things they said were likely quite realistic but nevertheless I found myself literally yelling out loud at them. Brooke specifically had me perturbed as she tended to ask her husband and others questions that they would have no more information about than she did. At times I wondered if it was the delivery or “tone” of their words more than the words themselves. To be fair to the narrator though the author (at times) described their comments as “whiney”.

Anyway, I would still recommend the series, these were just “normal” people who were coming to terms with a new world, unlike many other series, they did not have a “prepper” dad or grandma who had spent years imparting tons of tips and tricks to help the characters survive. There was only a small amount of the older characters that seemed to have a little knowledge about how to do things “the old ways”. Enjoy!

Good start to Post EMP story

This is a fast paced story, well written and the performance is done well also. Easy to listen to and the story engaged me. I’m looking forward to the next books in this series. Always good books by T.L. Payne

A new take on an EMP

This was a different take on an EMP apocalyptical situation, I did like the different characters, Ethan and Brooke, and Ethan parents, Nina and Robert, that are currently taking care of Ethan and Brooke twin children, and when the SHTF Ethan and Brooke are really far away (as an european, I am not really sure how far they’re currently away, but it really seems a really long distance) but me as a mother I relate to Brooke, if I was in that situation, going back to my kids it would be the first thing on my mind, and if I was Brooke I would get that across more often to Ethan, that being said, I don’t think I would be able to leave the kids that we helped save in an hospital when the SHTF, at least not until I knew that they had someone to look after them, I could also feel the distress that Nina and Robert feel because they know they have to take care of the twins, children have many needs, I dread to think what would happen if I couldn’t make grocery runs my youngest is also a very picky eater…
ohhh I just need to say this out loud I really loved tank, he is such a good boy, if you like to have a smart dog in your books hey, this character is for you ^___^.

I wont disclosure what happened because that’s for me to know and for you to find out, there’s lots of action in the book, it gets really real and many people loses their lives, some you like better than others, and others you wish the characters got to know who they were before hand, yeah you’ll know who he is…

I got to enjoy the audiobook, read by T.L. Howell, I think this is the second time I have listened to an audiobook read by him, he really tries to make different voices, but I wish he had a female counterpart to help reading the female voices, but he did a decent work overall. I did enjoy the audiobook and I recommend the experience.

I got a free Audible code to listen to this book and this is my honest opinion.

Lame story line, most unbelievable. Don’t bother, a waste of time. By then end I was wishing the all dead
