About this listen
What would you do if life handed you a double?
Danny Lynch didn't sign up for this, but right now this line cook gig is all he's got. Three weeks ago he was gainfully employed and doing fine. Now he's back in New York City and lucky to be employed at all, even if that means dicing carrots for 10 hours a day in a stuffy Midtown restaurant. The job's one saving grace is a sight line from his prep station in the kitchen to a coveted corner table in the main room. For Danny this is a window into the lives of Barcadero's flashy clientele - which, he soon discovers, includes a man who happens to look exactly like him.
Teddy Trager is a young venture capitalist, the visionary founder of billion-dollar investment firm Paradime Capital. He has everything Danny never knew he wanted - a cashmere suit, a gorgeous girlfriend, a sleek sports car - and the closer Danny looks at Trager, the more fixated he becomes.
A new stand-alone novel from the award-winning author of Limitless, Paradime is a harrowing story of a 21st-century identity crisis that thrills from minute one.

Story
A burnout at thirty-five, months behind on his book, low on cash, and something of a loser, Eddie Spinola could use a shot in the arm. One day he randomly runs into Vernon, his ex-wife's brother, and his ex-dealer. Now employed by a shadowy pharmaceutical company, Vernon has something that might help: a new designer drug that stimulates brain function. One pill and Eddie is hooked. His book is finished within days; he learns and synthesizes information at a frightening rate; and he can go a long time without sleep or food.

Story
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Story
Dan Hendricks is a man in need of a lifeline. A former CIA operative, he is now an agent for hire by foreign powers on the hunt for dangerous fugitives. It's a lethal world at the best of times, and Dan knows his number is almost up. His next job could be his last - and his next job is his biggest yet. The target sounds trackable enough: Jacques Fillon, who gave up his life trying to save a fellow passenger following a bus crash in northern Sweden. But the man was something of an enigma in this rural community, and his death exposes his greatest secret.

Story
The messages waiting for Henry Pierce when he plugs in his new phone clearly aren't intended for him. They indicate something has gone terribly wrong for a woman named Lilly. Pierce probes, investigates, and then tumbles through a hole, leaving behind a life driven by work to track down and help a woman he's never met. Connelly's latest is "a grabber from the beginning...utterly compelling."

Story
Dr. Dylan Reinhart wrote the book on criminal behavior. Literally—he's a renowned, bestselling Ivy League expert on the subject. When a copy of his book turns up at a gruesome murder scene—along with a threatening message from the killer—it looks like someone has been taking notes. Elizabeth Needham is the brilliant NYPD Detective in charge of the case who recruits Dylan to help investigate another souvenir left at the scene—a playing card. Another murder, another card—Dylan suspects that the cards aren't a signature, but a deadly hint, pointing toward the next victim.

A music therapist who thrives on helping others, Kendra Michaels cherishes the ordinary life she has achieved after stem cell surgery restored her sight. The skills she perfected during those sightless years - the ability to pick up the most subtle audio, olfactory, and tactile cues in the world around her - coupled with her laser-sharp mind - have made her a uniquely potent observer and problem solver. Kendra’s uncanny way of connecting the dots is as baffling to law enforcement as it is legendary.

Story
Donovan was shot by a cop. Four of the nine shots were lethal or would have been, if their target had been anybody else. The Foundation picked him up, brought him back, and trained him further. “Lethal” turns out to be a relative term when magic is involved. When Marci was 15, she levitated a paperweight and threw it at a guy she didn't like. The Foundation scooped her up for training too. “Hippie chick” Susan got well into her Foundation training before they told her about the magic, but she's as powerful as Donovan and Marci now.

Rushed Thriller
Great read but slow at parts and rushed in others. I would recommend it but caution that it does not answer all plotlines for those mystery/solve it readers/listeners.

Kept my interest, but pretty far-fetched
Limitless was so good that I was hoping for better. This kept my interest, but I think it was mainly I was hoping for something to make sense. The plot is complicated, I don't mind that, but it's a lot to swallow in terms of believability. And one thing that kept bugging me -- the narrator is supposed to be this ordinary guy, who has worked in restaurants all his life as a cook. He doesn't strike me as particularly smart, but his vocabulary is a definite liberal arts degree with an English major.
