Publisher's summary

Her father lost everything to a swindler in New York, and now, she's been sent west as a mail-order bride.

Pearl Stout is angry. Her parents put her on a train to the Arizona frontier to marry a man she's never met and didn't agree to marry. Feeling betrayed and alone, at first, she goes along with their plan. But before long, she discovers the freedom that can accompany a pioneering life and grabs onto it with both hands.

Pearl's intended is Hilton Pullman, a local reporter for the Tucson Gazette. He's tired of being alone - his parents died when he was young, and his older brother abandoned him after losing his own fiancée. But when that trouble-making brother, Hank, returns right before the wedding, Hilton’s carefully laid plans are thrown into question.

Will Pearl marry her intended? Or will she forge her own path along the Western frontier and discover love along the way?

Listen to this final installment in the historical Cowboys & Debutantes series from a best-selling author and learn once and for all the fate of our fallen-from-grace debutantes.

Inspired by true events.

Strong woman who shows how it is done

Ms. Holt knows how to draw her reader in with these short story. I couldn’t even begin to think how these girls felt losing everything from their families money to the life as they know it all to be sent to marry a man they didn’t know. My heart really went out to them. I listened to this in a box set seeing how each girl had to deal with her own issues. They show how strong they are, what they are willing to do, to make a new life for them. As things start going well there is news from home that may change each girls feelings on their new life.

The narrator did a wonderful job really making you feel the emotion of each girl as she goes through some very trying times. Things are easy for these woman who give so much of their selves. The character voices are wonderful, you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. Her male and female voices are given with strength and character. There are no repeating of words, no background noise, no volume changes. If breaks were taken I could not tell. This is one narrator I know I will enjoy listening to each time I pick up one of her new audios. I really look forward to listening to her voice.

I really enjoyed the twists and turns as the author hooks you from the first page to the last. It doesn’t take long for these woman to feel tragedy one thing leads to another as the author spins a delightful tale with action, broken hearts, tragedy and a love that will warm your heart. It is a short sweet Christian romance filled with excitement.

A pearl of a story

This audio is great just like all the other Vivi Holt stories. You can connect with the families and the hero and heroine. Viv makes yhe situation that is written just like every life situation.
Pearl takes place in a time in America where the west was short of females . Mail order brides were very popular back them. Male got females to move out there, for many reasons, for company, to start a family, and women moves out there because most of them had no choice because of their families expected them . Pearl is one of these mail order brides . Thing is when she does go out west , the groom , the male she is suppose to marry , Hilton , is everything she is looking for in a husband, respectable job, but one important reason as missing, attraction , meanwhile, Hank , was a wondered , but Pearl wanted Hank for her own . Not Hilton . Will Hilton let Pearl marry his brother.

Meghan Kelly was fantastic, I can listen to her do her magic telling a story . Her voice variation is nothing short of a miracle . Meghan can do a male voice better then any other female narrator doing the same male voices

City Girl meets Wild Cowboy

I enjoyed this book immensely. Pearl was sent to AZ to become a mail order bride, but on her arrival she realized that she wasn't too excited about marrying her intended. With the encouragement of some friends, she finds a way to support herself and give herself some independence. But in the background is Hank, brother of her intended. Hank didn't want to become interested in Pearl, but he can't help himself.

I like that Pearl learned to stand up for herself and even solved the mystery of the red ghost with Hanks help. The character of Hank was originally portrayed as crude and it took a little while to get over that first impression of him. All in all, an entertaining and enjoyable story. Perhaps my favorite part was the conclusion of the red ghost mystery.

The narration by Meghan Kelly was excellent in all ways.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Loved this story!

I enjoyed so many aspects of this story. I loved the “Red Ghost”, Pearls strong willed independence, and Hank’s supportive but still protective side. Vivid Holt has a gift for historical romance of this time period, and her understanding of the trials and tribulations these women faced. Meghan Kelly’s melodic voice was a perfect choice.

A Sweet & Enjoyable Story & Awesome Listen🎧

“Pearl” is an enjoyable & entertaining read/listen with great storylines and characters. It is the first Vivi Holt book I read, also the first historical mail order book. Thankfully society has come a long way since then. Great character development, Pearl Stout a NY Debutant is thrown from one lifestyle into another world, a small town amongst the wild frontier. She is faced with new challenges, handles each one and learns to be an independent woman. I loved the rebellion in her & how she stood up for herself, you can not help but root for her along the way. Her intended husband, Hilton, an interesting character with OCD issues just does not do it for her. Hank, his brother is another story. But Hank, a rugged pistol carrying cowboy, a professed bachelor who does not plan on settling down ever. I loved the tale of the red ghost and how it played out. Also thought Belle was a hoot too. Vivi Holt, thank you for this great book!

I listened to the audio edition, narrated by the amazingly talented Meghan Kelly. She performs the voices of all the different characters, giving each their own unique and distinguishable voice. The back and forth dialogue is performed effortlessly & keeps the story in a perfect flow. She sets a perfect tone, adds the right amount of dramatic flair that enhances the story even more. Meghan Kelly, thank you for another great listen.

A strong willed woman

Vivi Holt has based this story on true facts. Pearl's strength and determination come through when she is forced into a new environment. In the frontier era both men and women had to be strong. This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I really enjoyed it. It is a book that kids could read.

Meghan Kelly is an excellent narrator. Her transition from male and female voices to is effortless. Her male voices are realistic. I have just recently listened to her book narration and I am now a fan.
I received this book in exchange for a review. I definitely recommend it.
