Publisher's summary

In the summer of 1984, Parthia Alexander, a 25-year-old New York model, is admitted against her will to North Forks Psychiatric Hospital, her face mutilated by her own hand.

The therapist assigned to her is Vale Messenger, a woman new to this work and a single parent, trying to make the best of a second career.

When Vale pieces together the secret of Parthia’s past - that Parthia’s father, a cosmetic surgeon, had repeatedly operated on his daughter to turn her into a “perfect beauty” - she is only at the beginning of an ordeal that her clinical supervisor will call “one for the books”.

Vale never knew that madness could be such a formidable adversary.

Perfect Beauty is a novel about the nightmare of history, both personal and collective, and is based on a true story.

Fascinating, spell-binding!

This beautifully written novel offers both insight and suspense as the author reveals the power that early experiences hold to to shape the psychological life of an adult. We follow an unusual young woman’s breakdown and the personal journey her therapist must embark on to support her recovery. With the skill of a poet, the author takes us on unexpected adventures into the inner lives of each of the characters, revealing the workings of their minds, but perhaps also our own in the process. The reading by the author is expressive and intimate.

Atrocious narrator

The story was OK but the narration was absolutely abysmal. What makes writers think that they can read? And why does Audible allow this travesty to happen? For certain this one can't read and it took away from a decent story. This guy couldn't even pronounce anesthesiologist. His delivery was flat and he repeatedly stumbled in his narration. Ugh. Read this, don't listen to it.
