About this listen

Nate Williams was found wandering alone in the woods at the age of six. He suffers a heart attack at the age of seventeen, which profoundly changes his body and soul - he becomes a shifter, assuming the shape of a wolf. He is sent to the Noble College, where changing into an animal is normal and classes are about altering the weather or changing nature rather than math. Nate quickly realizes that there is more going on at Noble than meets the eye. When a series of murders around the country threaten the secrecy of the Hidden World, Nate and his friends take it upon themselves to figure out what is going on and bring the killers to justice.

I’m actually so sad about this book. I think the writer had a great idea but not enough talent yet to write this story. I wish he had started slower and worked his way into this story. There was way too much alliteration. He needed to use a thesaurus, as he uses the same words over and over throughout the book. There is far too little character development in the exposition, which made the entire book confusing and difficult to bond with. The ease of the character reactions and arc was so sudden that even in the realm of the books reality, it was unbelievable. The story could have been amazing if the author took more time setting up the characters, and developing the readers interest in their lives. This book should have been multiple books instead of one.
Obviously he is setting up for a second or multiple books, but the writing was so lackluster than it’s doubtful I would want to read more. Also in the world we live in, if this author was hoping for a made for movie book, it definitely needed to be better written as this would be an extremely expensive setting to create.
Lastly, why do these freshman students NEED girlfriends so badly and then just switch them around. Again, it would have been better without this because then I could have just assumed it was written for a younger audience, and the above mentioned wouldn’t be as important. But I wouldn’t be comfortable with some of the impressions that this would give to a young crowd.

So much potential

This is the kind of book I’m gonna have to borrow from the library. The narrator is extremely monotone throughout the entire book. For every character. If you’re not seriously paying attention you’ll lose the story and need to go back to re-listen just to get back on track. The book is great. The narration was not very.

Good story

Excellent narration. Good, if somewhat forgettable story. Reminiscent of HP, but American and everyone is a were-animal.

Great background story

Nothing unique but way of the storyline (typical young adult fantasy plot), but I enjoyed the attention to detail. The excellent narration really helped me stay engaged.

Excellent Narrator

you can feel the internal conflict of Nate as he discovers lies with the truth. after the half truths are revealed, you revel with him as he wrestles with what he has discovered.

it brings you in emotionally.

This is basically the shifter version of Harry Potter, except the main character is an orphan adopted by a rich and loving family that supports him. I found some parts interesting, but I think Harry Potter fans would be upset by the numerous parallels. I like shifter books so I listened anyway

Good, unless you are super into Harry Potter

Definitely a book for the younger crowd but I liked the slow pace and I always like Zachary Webber. it was fun to hear him narrate something G rated lol

What a great adventure. I loved the story and the new idea of a society with people being others that is cleverly introduced. Great book.

Fun Adventure

Good book but it took me a few chapters to really get into it. I found some of the descriptive details to distract me from the plot of the story.
