About this listen

J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan has enchanted audiences for well over a century with its celebration of the promise of an eternal childhood, as well as recognition of the wonder and joys of growing up. In his charming and resonant baritone, Alan Munro performs the timeless tale of Wendy Darling's experience with "the beautiful boy with a beautiful smile", the devil-may-care Peter Pan. This "boy who won't grow up" flies her to his home island of Neverland, introduces her to his gang of Lost Boys, mermaids, Native Americans, fairies, and the infamous pirate Captain Hook.

I liked this book very much. I listened to it too fast to laugh or cry at anything (at 2.40x speed). But I thought Alan Munro did an admirable job performing this story! I enjoyed his narration.

I enjoyed this book!

This version is hard to follow, the narrator is so choppy. He punctuates after random words and emphasizes words that shouldn't be.

While JM Barrie’s classic is well worth your time, we have found (across several selections) that you get what you pay for in Alan Munro’s narration. Without fail, he has provided jagged narration with awkward pauses that demonstrate a lack of understanding.

Love the book; lackluster performance

If you have not read this classic, don't let the Disney franchise throw you off. We were delighted at every turn. The story is full of fantastic childhood dreams, and captures some great moments that outline the roles of parent and child, maturity and immaturity (so called.)

Unfortunately, this edition is poorly narrated. The diction and pronunciation is articulate and spot on, but the narrator over-emphasizes punctuation, creating strange pauses that are hard to follow. Many of the jokes were lost as I tried to figure out what was going on and belatedly realized the intended humor. The gold standard is the Jim Dale narration, who perfectly captures the essence of the book. We got a copy from the library and it kept us smiling, but the kids finished it and apparently we got this version on sale, so here is the review.

The narrator will put you to sleep. This is on of my favorite stories. I wish I would have shopped around for a better narration.

Very slow and boring.

There is a tinny quality to this recording that makes it difficult to listen to while commuting. I would’ve purchased this book with another recording if I had known.

My kids and I really disliked this, and I still don’t know if it was the story or just the narration. I started a second book he read and it’s equally poorly done - he pauses between random words but not at punctuation, speaks in a near monotone, and adds random emphasis.
