Great story

This was a great story! It took many interesting twists and turns. I became interested because C. S. Lewis so often referenced George McDonald. I will defiantly be reading/hearing more of his work.

Bad Reader

Very interesting book, hard to enjoy. This edition sounds like a LibriVox recording. The reader is not good at all, very flat and monotone, and there are whole chapters with painfully loud background "fuzz" - almost impossible to get through with this reader. Sorry, Brad Powers.

Wasnt as easy to get through but inspiring

wasn't as easy to get through as I hoped but it was definitely inspiring. I read it because CS Lewis sided this book as one of his Inspirations. I thought it would be a super exciting read but it was more of an exciting story told in kind of dragging way. at the end I felt very fond of the book. it could have been the reader's fault that it kind of dragged. I'm not sure but still happy I read it.

If you love decadent expensive literary caviar

This epic adventure has it all, love, betrayal, wonderment, symbolism for the story and life. Suspense, sadness, excitement. I wish I had been introduced to this in school. I could not get enough. This has become a new favorite listen.

Rich, sad, hopeful fairy tale

One of the most moving tales I have ever known of. George Macdonald gives a tremendous sense of melancholy and redemption through this book.

great story

narrator was too monotone....but wasn't actually horrible either. story itself was very good. George McDonald is one of those best kept secrets in literature.

String of Unconnected Stories

The character arch was slow in coming and not satisfying. The "noblest" thing he ever did was kill an enemy. Lots of swooning over mute women of beauty. Yawn. Sorry, C.S. Lewis. I don't see why this book was that great. I did like Princess and the Goblin.

Incredibly good

Incredibly good (even more so when considering it was written so long ago)
Author was great at creating the pictures vividly and easily.

Unparalleled Fairy Tale

MacDonald's pace and poetic prose (and also his frequent unbridled poetry itself) is astounding. His subject is timeless, but his telling of it incredible. The insights into the nature of the soul, the nature of the cosmos, are profound.

The recording is slightly below the standards I'm used to, but it didn't detract much from the experience.
