About this listen

What's a millionaire bachelor to do? Join the army - with his butler!

Captain Willard Phule is the only officer in the Space Legion with his own butler, but Beeker has stuck with him through thick and thin. Which is why Phule simply can't comprehend why his butler would run off-planet without a word - and take with him Omega Company's lovely new medic.

Without his right-hand man, Phule has no idea what his left hand is doing. So he takes off after his errant butler, just as General Blitzkrieg decides to make a surprise visit to Zenobia. And the only thing Blitz would like better than catching Phule off guard is to catch Phule AWOL....

There was no real plot. The one where Phule's Company is sent to an incipient warzone to defend a pacifist planet from its warmongering neighbor was much better as it had relatively real stakes. But as I do enjoy the characters it is always a pleasure to revisit Willard, Beaker, Brandi and the rest. But think of this novel as a trip home for the holidays instead of an adventure.

Go for the characters, more than the plot

This is a fun book. Anyone complaining about it probably got bored because they weren't invested enough in the support characters. I'd definitely buy it again.

Great book, plenty of fun!

Reading was good enough to make me overlook the somewhat annoying misprounounation of the word adjuntant

Excellent reading of a hilarious book

Another fun adventure for the Omega mob! once again Robert Aspirin and Peter Heck have hit a home run. This time the action takes place on multiple planets around the galaxy, with all sorts of characters; from rough and tumble wild West recreaters to Old Earth itself the adventure spans the Galaxy!

Another fun romp!

I spent an awful lot of this book feeling annoyed that several characters were acting completely out of character. It was all explained by the end and the confusion was probably intentional, but first my poor husband had to smirk at me while I railed about, “He wouldn’t do that!” The visits to stereotyped locations full of character stereotypes were amusing.

Star trekkin’ across the universe

Even when you think Phule is at his wit's end he always comes out on top. His ability to bring people together is what I admire most about this series.

Another great hilarious trip with a Phule and his company. The legion will never be the same again.

Full of fun

I must say this one is a little off compared to the previous books...
too bad to end the series on a low

I enjoyed the whole series. Well thought out, well executed. Plenty of excitement without any real violence, despite the setting of a legionary space force. Problems solved with brains and heart rather than meanness or blood shed. The bad guys all lose, though some don't realize it.

Nice!

This book felt like it was written by a completely different author than the previous books in this series. It felt like a 7 year old with ADHD who had watched too many crappy TV shows authored this book. This story has a ton of random shallow ideas and locations that are not given any time to be fleshed out in any meaningful way which left me not caring about what happened to the characters I've grown to love in this series. Quite a few times there were extremely simple solutions to the overall conflict (driving force of the story) which the author had to spend way too much time explaining why we couldn't have taken the simple solution so that a plot still exists. A main character refuses to send a vital plot solving message to another main character because he's convinced that character won't look at it because people don't look at stuff while they're on vacation?...really?
Narration was on par with the rest of the books but hard to enjoy with a crappy story to narrate.
The previous 5 titles in this series are totally worth your time but steer away from this one. You won't miss anything because nothing but random useless events happen for absolutely no reason.

A huge let down compared to the previous 5 books
