About this listen

Faela is a mischievous pixy in Ireland who just can’t stay out of trouble. Whether embellishing flowers, tantalizing goblins, or creating an uproar with the "big-folk", her magical hijinks can test the mettle of even the most patient fairy.

Most of all, she loves to "pixylate" humans, stealing their bodies and taking them for a joy ride.

Then she pulls one prank too many, and is threatened with banishment by the Faerie king. To redeem herself, she must become "house fairy" to a grieving family, and lift the spirits of the youngest daughter. Of course, no one knows that the little girl has the "gifted sight", the ability to see fairies, and Faela soon learns that caring for a seven-year-old is no easy flight through a garden.

But Faela longs to experience romance, so when the handsome ex-beau of the older sister comes to call, she pixylates the young woman in an effort to reunite the former-lovers. Chaos ensues, as the personalities of fairy and girl collide!

And then there’s the Pooka, a fiendish shape-shifting goblin who will spare no wickedness to see Faela’s mission fail. For the Pooka has claim over any banished pixy, and he plots to make Faela his bride.

Fun Fairy Tale

This is a remarkably fun story to listen to, wonderfully performed. I really love the old Irish setting, and the mixture of the magical Faerie elements with the real world. Highly recommended for children 7 to 12 years old, or anyone who likes a good fantasy. Reminds me a lot of the old Disney film “Darby O’Gill and the Little People”.

Perfect book audio for young women !

The PERFECT St. Patrick’s Day gift for girls age 6 and above, as well as for anyone who enjoys entertaining Irish folklore !

Pixylations is a wonderfully written, original story of a mischievous fairy who embarks on many adventures … and finally one too many that makes her magical world tumble o’er and o’er. The book version, which includes adjoining page illustrations by the author Joe Laudati, is now available in audio format which captures the genuine influence of Irish landscape, characters and dialogue. The plot connects well with the natural human values of love, jealously, and humor shared between Faela (the protagonist) and all the human and brethren fairy creatures she encounters.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in a symphony of Irish dialect, Celtic-like folklore, and a driving plot that youngsters and young women can naturally relate to.

ENCHANTING!! A Wonderful Tale for the Family

Joe Laudati's "Pixylations" is a highly entertaining tour through a magical world of faeries, trolls and Irish folklore. We follow Faela, a pesky young woman fairy who must make amends for her mischievous ways by serving as a guardian to the young girl of a poor Irish family. The challenges Faela confronts are none she could ever expect, especially when the girl's much older sister gets involved. And there's an evil being lurking that threatens the welfare of both Faela and the family. Children and adults alike will be delighted by the spunky characters as well the engrossing, heartwarming story. "Pixylations" is the perfect gift for bedtime or any time.

A delightful tale

A stunningly detailed and well told story of a heroin fairy named Fayla. This tale helps us recapture what it was like to have a child-like mind and believe in other worlds of mystical beings. Fantasy creatures often hidden from grown-ups, that have lost their ability to see the hidden. Einstein is quoted as saying “ If you want your children to be intelligent then read them fairy tales”. And this book is sure to enhance the imagination and creativity of both the of young and the old.

A delightfully modern fairy tale.

If you’re tired of traditional fairy tales, then ‘Pixylations’ is for you. It’s a wonderful, heartfelt and entertaining story, awash in both Irish folklore, and the more metaphysical concept of fairies as ‘nature spirits’. Faela, the wonderfully-flawed main character, is a prankful pixy who just can’t seem to stay out of trouble. She keeps the story moving with her spunk, wit, and magical antics. I particularly love how she bonds with the McBride sisters, learning vital lessons about empathy and what it means to be ‘human’. Also note, Faela isn’t an instantly likable character. She’s a bit of a ‘bad girl’ who gets put on a road to redemption, which allows tween girls to relate to her. But she quickly wins your heart, and you root for her in the end.

The narrator has a charming, lilting voice that plays well to the story’s whimsical style. The book is read at a slightly slow pace, well-suited to a children’s book, but as an adult, I found I prefer a slightly faster read, so I increased the speed to 1.1x. I would recommend this audio-book to anyone, of any age, particularly if you enjoy a good Disney or Pixar cartoon. Just pretend it’s your mom reading you a favorite bedtime story, and maybe you’ll go to sleep dreaming of a blue fairy.
