A series of meteor showers occur over several regions around the earth releasing an alien virus. Millions die in the affected areas. Few are immune, and it’s only the beginning. Rachel, Peter, and Steve are strangers, sheltering with others in an old community center in the small town of Derry, New Hampshire. They struggle to come to grips with what happened and cope with the loss of loved ones. To their horror, the dead rise and walk the earth, becoming more aware and growing increasingly aggressive. A few survivors look for sanctuary in the countryside thinking they'll be safer. The mutations continue and the zombies begin to feed on and infect the living. The attacks increase and their numbers grow. The survivors in a rural landscape are unaware of the changes and the horrors headed their way. They find themselves in a fight to survive a nightmare from hell, and what they learn changes everything. An all-out war begins for the last survivors of humanity.

Better narrated by real person. I wish the characters didn’t separate at the end. They should have stuck together. The ending left me wanting to know what happens next. Waiting for next book.

I enjoyed the story and the characters are interesting but the virtual voice is just awful.

Good story

I like it, but very disappointed to see that this was written in 2017 and no other books by the author since

Good twist

I liked the story, but I was kind of preoccupied with the computerized reading format. I would give it like a 75% for being pretty good but still has a ways to go.

Preoccupied by the virtual voice

I enjoyed it. What made it super creepy is that I live in the next town over from Derry. I can never improvise Broadway street like that ever again. I hope there’s another book

Good story and would have been a great book if narrated by a human. I’d pass if you have other options.

Virtual voice was horrible

While the story itself was okay, the AI narration was so cringe worthy that I almost stopped the listening to it. I fell asleep through several hours of it but hadn't really missed anything - especially the "narrator's" voice. Dead monotony, flavored with odd pauses, incorrect pronunciation, and zero percent correct inflection, made for an awful experience. The story was predictable and a bit slow, but I probably would have listened to the next one if there were a real human narrating. Boo for Audible leaving me no choice but to abandon it.

Horrible Narration!!!

while this story is supposed to have had an editor- one with a name, apparently, the mistakes riddling this book finally made it so that I couldn't listen after the first slowly developed 23 chapters. I kept hoping that the pace would pick up or that the torturous sins of the lack of editing would ease off. I should have known better. If you're going to use VV for your "book" don't use terms like, "OWWWWW" or you'll get "O. W. W. W. W. W." Head banging against wall... Another sure sign of a "shoot me now" book is the doubling of paragraphs. That's what finally did me in. Hope this saves someone from spending time on a mediocre story and a grating VV. Peace.

Once again-VV and poor editing ruin a story.
