About this listen

In a masterful standalone thriller by New York Times bestselling author of the Rizzoli & Isles series, Tess Gerritsen, a mother is haunted by a very old piece of music she finds in a strange antique shop in Rome.

The first time violinist Julia Ansdell picked up the Incendio Waltz in a darkened antique shop in Rome, she knew it was a strikingly unusual composition. The minor key and complex feverish arpeggios have a life of their own. But when she plays the piece, Julia blacks out and awakens to find her small daughter implicated in acts of surprising violence. When she travels to Venice to find the previous owner of the music, she uncovers a heart-stoppingly dark secret that not only dates back to the horrors of the Holocaust, but also directly involves a dangerously powerful family who would stop at nothing to keep Julia from bringing the truth to light.

Spectacular performance!

I especially love audio books where the narrator (s) are good at playing several characters. This was that type. But most important, the storyline was very entertaining, moving and emotional. I believe I will always remember it as it touched my soul very deeply.

The Antique That Fell Into The Right Hands

Playing with Fire was a short but definitely thrilling novel. Julia a violinist in the symphony orchestra has just finished a concert in Rome.
She decides to take in the sights of the City before her trip home and happens to wonder into a small dark ancient antique shop, while there she stumbles upon a sheet of music she finds she is drawn to, and she can't put it down. Julia purchases the antique music sheet and flys home.
The more she plays the music the more she can't remember what happened before she started playing the masterpiece. When the events take a violent turn and appears to involve her daughter Lilly doing strange and even undesirable things, while listening to her mom play the music, she decides to investigate.
Julia flys back to Rome to see just where this music originated and who wrote the song, The Death Dance.
I give this Audiobook 4stars for performance and for storytelling.
It also makes me never want to buy another item out of an Antique Store again....

ABRIDGED! Caveat emptor!

Curse it! I did not know this is an abridged version when I purchased (fortunately on sale). I’m so used to finding wonderful full length performances I forgot to watch out for truncated versions. The full novel is also available on Audible and I will gladly give up a credit to get the entire story.
