About this listen

From best-selling author Dean Koontz, a trilogy of original novellas, “Last Light”, “Final Hour”, and “Troubled Times”, about an extraordinary heroine - Makani Hisoka-O’Brien - a Southern California surfer and clairvoyant.

“Last Light”
Makani is a young woman with a good heart and the gift of touch - a troubling gift, and sometime curse, that separates her from others, from her family, friends, and lovers - a gift that makes her wary of casual contact. For when Makani touches others, their darkest thoughts and secret deeds are revealed to her. But her exile from the world at large comes to an end when she meets a “gifted” man with a talent of his own - a talent guided by a twisted soul. In a war of wills, only one will survive.

“Final Hour”
Makani saves a stranger from an accident in the park and experiences a most disturbing vision. With her friend Pogo, her dog Bob, and mere traces of information to guide her, Makani must track down two mysterious sisters - one of them innocent, one not.

“Troubled Times”
A friend reveals that he is under attack from a man with supernatural talents - a malevolent man with the power to manipulate time. The power was meant for good - to save humanity - but it was usurped by this man of insatiable greed and lust. Makani must use her gift, yet again, not only to save her friend, but the world as well. Has Makani finally met her match? Can her good heart stand up to such evil? Someone’s time is up, and only time will tell whose time that is.

Narrator is hard to listen too

Story is interesting enough, but the monotone voice and non-distinctions between characters outside of their names was a great minus to the story line. Made it very difficult to keep listening.

Great story(s), Bad narrator

Dean Koontz is a fantastic author and does a great job in this "side-along" to Ashley Bell, but the narrator is bland and uninteresting. she drones quite a bit and often puts the EM-PHSIS on the wrong SYL-LABLE. While certainly not the worst to ever narrate a Koontz book (that dubious distinction still belongs to Angela Dawe's "the Kindle's text to speech reading sounds more human than you" reading of "Servants of the Twilight") This reader needs to learn how to inflect like a human and have some real emotion in her voice.

Love the narrator !!! Love the characters !!!

I'm a big fan of all Dean Koontz books. I have never been disappointed by any of them. I listen to them over and over again his imagination never ceases to amaze me. I love the characters he creates and how he makes you form a emotional attachment to the
" good guys" of the story and a serious.... #%@%÷*# dislike for the "bad guys" !!! Thank you, Mr Koontz for every entertaining hour spent listening to your books.

Horrible narration.

This reader doesn’t read like people speak. It’s more like she is reading haiku, almost like each phrase stands alone. It totally interfered with my enjoyment of the story. Her interpretation of male voices speaking slowly lowers their IQ by at least 25 points and was ver irritating. I will never listen to another book read by Amy. This is all about the reader. I am going to read the book to form an opinion about the story line. I can’t do it based on this performance.

A most engaging trilogy.

Excellent Dean Koontz. Would love more Makani novellas. How could shorts/novellas be so good?

Hard to listen to and follow

Disappointing performance by the reader. Very monotone, hard to listen to. Story was kinda flat, but had so much potential. Koontz is typically a good listen... but skip this one.

narrator is awful, misses the mark by a long shot

I think I have reviewed before, but I'm listening to pretty much all my books again. the narrator is awful, she is trying way to hard to be a cool laid back Hawaiian, and she misses the mark by a long shot. I am hoping they re-release this book read by someone else, because I enjoy the story it's self. its just the narrator grates my nerves. it's really hard to finish the book for me. If she rea the book in her normal voice maybe that would be fine.

Darkest Desires

Good stories. Narrator is very boring. She makes the male part sound like idiots. Enjoyed the book. Definitely a good set of tales.
