About this listen

Recently divorced, Laura Baughman is taking her life back. After a decade away, she's returning to Yachats, Oregon - the small town she couldn't wait to leave after graduation - to take over her late mother's beloved flower shop. Yet once she arrives, Laura discovers the store has been neglected and her father has partnered in construction with Jake Lock. The once-scrawny high school band geek is now successful - and irresistibly sexy - and set to inherit her family's business. That is, unless Laura can prove in the next 30 days that she has what it takes to run the company.

Despite the heat between Jake and Laura, romance is out of the question. After her last disastrous relationship, Laura has sworn off men - especially one bent on crushing her dreams. That's just fine with Jake, who thinks the gorgeous blonde is a pain in the neck...though admittedly one he'd like to put his lips all over.

Jake has a proposal to mix business with pleasure. But when a deal goes south, Laura is ready to pack up and skip town all over again. Does he have what it takes to convince her to stay?

Narrator was a bit much, didn't enjoy her performance.

This story was nothing remember -able or remarkable. typical tale that's been done to death with no depth. sex scenes were written well and that's about all.

meh, unremarkable

I’m all about the formulaic romance novel and there were elements of the story line that were okay-good, but I couldn’t get past how angry I got with the female lead. Lots of plot lines circle around the fact that the main characters just don’t communicate at all, and this was that on steroids.

Laura runs away from her hometown at 18 to escape the memories of her mother and endures what seems to be a very emotionally abusive marriage that is totally glossed over. She returns home to find that her parents’ store is being run by an old HS friend who is clearly super hot. Her dad pits them against each other to see who will run the store and Laura pretty much decides to give up because she can’t learn how to do it in a week. I just wanted to throttle her. Who can learn the ins and outs of 10 years of a business in less than 30 days?

The performer was good, but the characters were both so whiny and stupid. I listened till the end but was glad that I paid zero dollars to do so.

Annoying

In the first two chapters, Laura and Jake squabbled like they were in grade school rather than almost 30 year old adults.

In the third chapter, they started to have angry sex after bickering in public. Then Jake HIT Laura, who meekly submitted to being assaulted and I stopped listening.

It would be really helpful if the book's description included the warning: Promotes sexual abuse and degrading behavior toward women.

Silly and Degrading

Way to many sexual encounters! Had a good story going, then they’d have sex. Story would get going and they were Hooked up again, again and again and again. Ridiculous!

Could had been a great story!
