About this listen

Avery Sparks is a master at controlling chaos - and she gets plenty of opportunities as fire chief and head of emergency management in her hometown of Chance, Nebraska. The only thing she can't seem to control are her feelings when she's around Jake Mitchell, the man who was her first everything the night of their high school graduation. But Jake was so quick to leave Chance - and Avery - behind that she swore she'd move on.

While Avery's job is to minimize drama, Jake embraces the chaos of an emergency. After enlisting in the Army National Guard, Jake became a nationally recognized leader in disaster recovery. Yet a life on the road has left him restless. So when a class-four tornado wreaks havoc on Chance, he's eager to return home - and to the woman never far from his mind.

Now, Avery and Jake must team up to help their hometown weather a siege of violent storms. But it's clear to them both that nature isn't the only force they'll have to reckon with. Will Avery and Jake's whirlwind love affair be an all-new disaster - or can they recover from their stormy past to build a future together?

Fantastic start to a new series

Any additional comments?

This book is the perfect start to this new series!!Avery is an awesome heroine, whose past is a bit heartbreaking, but has made her such a strong, successful woman. Which makes it crazy hard for Jake, who likes to be the hero in everything. The chemistry between these 2 is intense, and I love the bantering between them. Reading this book, I felt like I got an inside look at what happens during/after a tornado. The teamwork it takes to rebuild, the heartbreak they face, and the ideas that may emerge from it. Twisted Up had me laughing, crying, and falling in love with a new town and new characters by Erin Nicholas. The narrator has a way of pulling you in to the book, and I will definitely be checking out more of her work. You definitely need to get this audible!!

Sweet chaos

An adorable “can’t stay away even though you drive me crazy” kind of book. Totally sucked me in (what I did there?!;). Reading book 2. And 3 if I’m honest TODAY!!!!

I really enjoy audio books.

I usually love Erin Nicholas's books. When I saw this on Kindle Unlimited as a listen as well as read, I jumped on it by ditching another book in my queue so I could listen to this on an upcoming trip.

Kate Rudd did a really good job.

Unfortunately, I had a hard time liking the main characters. Jake was so arrogant through out the story. It took to the end of the book for me to start liking him even a little. Avery was sweet, but weak when it came to Jake. Throughout the book it's pointed out that she's such a strong capable woman, but I didn't really see it. Jake and Avery are in the middle of sex and he brings up his another times not feeling as good?! Really? Like I'd want that brought up in the middle of having sex. And Avery answers by saying "good"...and that's with all her self esteem issues when it comes to Jake and his family?

I plan to keep reading this series because I really like this author. I hope this was just an one off.

This book makes me want to move to Chance!

The narrator was wonderful, she kept me captivated and brought the characters to life, beautifully.
Avery Sparks is the fire chief for the city of Chance, Nebraska. She's an independent, courageous, and strong woman...until Jake Mitchell comes back to town. Jake was Avery's first everything and she simply can't deny the attraction every time he comes home in between working disaster recoveries across the nation.
Avery is such a lovable character, especially for her whit, strength and love of community. Then there's Jake, who feels the need to fix everything and always rescue people, but how can he help the most stubborn and fiercely independent person in his life? The town faces another tornado, and the aftermath has both Avery and Jake realizing that maybe what has been light-hearted fun between them, isn't what they really want.
I was kept enthralled by this book and it made my daily work commute fly by. I can't wait to read the next one in the series!

The book was entertaining but got pretty cheesy after awhile. Overall I enjoyed listening to it.

Twisted Up

I absolutely LOVED this one! Avery is fire chief in small town Chance and while setting up for the high school reunion everyone is whispering to her about Jake coming back to town when there he is and she sets fire to the table cloth. Of course! When they go to get more streamers they are locked in the shed and a kiss and more later a F-4 tornado hits. What a way to start the book! This is a wonderful second chance romance and more. It goes back to first love and forgiveness and learning to trust again. I cannot say again how much I enjoyed this one and recommend it.

Ahh it is books like these that make be love the romance genre so much. It reminds me of Lori Foster, Jill Shalvis kinds of books.

This one was a second chance romance and I am a sucker for those. I loved the small town feel of the book. I really liked both the Hero and the Heroine. They had their struggles from the past and the present but there really wasn’t much drama it was just a very nice romance.

And sometimes you just need to pick up a book that you know you’re going to enjoy from start to finish.

I also very much liked the narration, Kate Rudd is a favorite of mine and she can narrate the he - ll out of a book!

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
