About this listen

Oceanographer and professional gamer Cordelia Bourne has had an unexplained connection with water and aquatic life for as long as she could remember. With days spent taking photos underwater and nights spent streaming her live gameplay of video game Tides of Atlantis, even as an adult, she surrounds herself with anything aquatic.

When she meets pro surfer Simon Thalassa, her entire world begins to change. One look into his green eyes and she gets the sinking feeling that she's met him before even though she knows she hasn't.

But after a fateful day at sea, realizations pour in, and soon she discovers Simon is Poseidon, King of the Seas, and she has a special connection to him.

Poseidon and Cordelia!!

I liked Cordelia. She has an unerring charm and the work she does to keep the ocean clean (clean in the book only, not in real life unfortunately) is delightful. I really enjoyed the second chance vibes in the first half of the story; it was so cute! Cordelia and Poseidon were lovely together and I liked their dialogue and how well they clicked.
One thing I like about the author's stories is the increase in magic/mythology as the series goes on. It adds to each story and keeps the world created by the author interesting.

This is part of a series, but each book can be enjoyed as a standalone. I would recommend enjoying each in order for maximum enjoyment of this series.

I enjoyed the narrator! I listened to her at normal 1.0x speed. She was clear and articulate. She did have some odd pronunciations that threw me off a little, but overall she did a good job!

Book 5 - Contemporary Mythos

This is book 5 in Spade's Contemporary Mythos series and I love this series. I loved our main characters Simon (Poseidon) and Cordelia. The mythology twist is perfect. Well written with great narration (would love some dual narration tho). Fun and smooth flowing storyline. I enjoyed the secondary characters - especially the dynamic with Cori and her BFF. More sweet than steam and some laughs and danger tossed in too make this a read / listen that won't disappoint. Definitely looking forward to more in these wonderful twists where our favorite and not so favorite greek gods find their HEA!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

Favorite of series

This book was a complete surprise to me. Knowing from the blurb that Cordelia was a gamer made me think I may not like it as much as the others since I'm not into gaming. I was wrong. I've now finished the series, and I think this may have been my favorite.

Of all the Greek mythology in Contemporary Mythos, most of it I had heard of but wasn't very knowledgeable about any of it. However I don't recall ever hearing of Amphitrite. Learning her history while seeing how Cordelia's story played out was fun, and I was completely surprised.

Carly Robins narrates one of my all-time favorite series (The Medoran Chronicles) and I was excited to hear her voice in Poseidon. I think she did a fabulous job as always.

Loved it!

The contemporary Mythos series gets better and better with each book. Poseidon is definitely one of my favourites. It's a wonderfully written second chance romance with a fascinating premise wrapped in the mystery of mythology and the paranormal. Carly Spade has been augmenting the Mythos world and the characters, producing a refreshing and remarkable series. The storyline is engaging and captivating; it draws you in and connects you even more with the characters. Cordelia (Cori) and Poseidon (aka Simon) are an amazing couple. Their connection is deep, vibrant, and genuine. They both have a profound affinity for the sea. Elements of suspense, danger, and action are perfectly balanced with personal growth, devotion, passion, and desire. The way Cori and Simon's journey unfolded and expended was simply clever. I enjoyed every moment and can't wait for the next book in the series.

Carly Robins did an outstanding job with the narration. Portraying and emulating Cori and Simon's personalities, emotions, and connection, breathing life into their story. Poseidon was a terrific listen, and if possible, I would give more than five stars.

Superb!

Poseidon and his wife, Amphitrite, both put work in front of family and their marriage suffered. When Amphitrite felt disrespected too much, she decided to walk away, but that meant walking away from her children, too. Little did she know that she'd be banished to the stars for not following through on Zeus's command. Cordelia, Cory, is a conservationist, happiest around sea creatures of all sorts, and a professional gamer with mad skills. She and her best friend, Meg, are always at work on the ocean and, one day, Cory sees a familiar face, but can't quite place it. When she hears a voice behind her, she turns to see that it's Simon Thalaasa, the world famous surfer. That voice and the face, how does she know him? Of course, he's really Poseidon and she's Amphitrite, and they're about to find out what they've missed since they left Atlantis. As are all of the Mythos books, Poseidon is just as much educational as it is entertaining. The Greek gods have never been  more interesting! Carly Robbins does her usual excellent job with the narration. Her pronunciation of Poseidon has an extra syllable, just a little off-putting, but in no way lessened my enjoyment of the audio version of this story.

Love this author narrator combo

I love the way Carly brings the Greek Gods to life. She gives them a human touch. She also hooks them up with mortals/humans. This one was a hair different than the previous ones I've read. Which is great I like variety. This one is a second chance at romance I guess you could call it. As the FMC and the MC have a bit of a past.

A second chance romance in an aquatic setting

I have listened to this series out of order, but I was really looking forward to this book. I have always loved water and everything related to the element, so I was very enthusiastic to see what the author had in store for Poseidon. I was even more stoked when I saw that the story involved a second chance romance! I don't know how to say it without giving away spoilers, but I loved the love journey presented here. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves supernatural romances, Greek mythology or aquatic life!

Starfish

The way that Carly Spade reimagines Greek mythology is fun, dirty, and comes with some battles. Mythology has never been a strong suit for me, but I really like this series. Not only are the back stories told, it's fascinating and a bit naughty.

Simon and Cordelia "Cori" are given a second chance at forever. There are so many things that I enjoyed - the banter, chemistry, the merging of their pasts without each other. And then there are the challenges. So many challenges. Not just them overcoming misunderstandings and misplaced priorities, but also trying to right some past wrongs against others. I really like that they faces them, instead of ignoring and moving on.

This book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. Cori and Simon do reunite but there's a problem they aren't able to solve yet related to a child of theirs. To make up for it, I suppose, there is a second love story for Meg, Cori's best friend, and the promise of one for another character.

I really like how Simon / Poseidon assimilates into Cori's mortal world, even after she regains her title and powers. It makes it all the cuter.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrator is Carly Robins. This was my first time listening to her.
