About this listen

I know her inside out. I know what she’s thinking, I know what she wants. So I can’t give up on her, she knows I never will. Some friendships fizzle out. Rachel and Clara promised theirs would last forever. They met in high school when Rachel was the shy, awkward new girl and Clara was the friend everyone wanted. Instantly, they fell under each other’s spell, and nothing would be the same again. Now they are in their late twenties, and Rachel has the television career, the apartment, and the boyfriend, while Clara’s life is spiraling out of control. Despite everything, they remain inextricably bound. Then Rachel’s news editor assigns her to cover a police press conference, and she is shocked when she arrives to learn that the subject is Clara, who has been reported missing. Is it an abduction, a suicide, or something else altogether? Imagine discovering something about your oldest friend that forces you to question everything you’ve shared together. The truth is always there. But only if you choose to see it. In Colette McBeth’s mesmerizing debut, the story of a friendship and a missing person investigation are expertly wound tighter and tighter from the opening lines until the final, stunning conclusion.

BEST of my 2015 list !!

This was such a fantastically different novel, in so many ways !! Made better only by the incredible narration. I am looking forward to more from Colette McBeth, and Penelope Rawlins (together or separately) . Outstanding really... shot right to the top of my list of favorite audio books ever.

Slow thing

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. Absolutely slowest book ever, okay not the slowest, but slow. With the two main protagonists being absolute weirdos I could not relate to them in any way. I did not care what happened to either one of them.

What three words best describe Penelope Rawlins’s performance?

Decent, well paced, fair

Could you see Precious Thing being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Well anymore they make movies that are utter garbage so yes, that is plausible.

Any additional comments?

I only finished this because I had it on while I slept. This book is not really a mystery but it pretends to be and the writer asks us to believe to much at the end. I would not waste a credit again on it!

*VICTIM AND/OR PSYCHOPATH *

An amazing story, with well developed characters. This story is not a thrill a minute, but a rich fascinating plot that will hold your interest until the unforgettable conclusion. It was worth the credit. And I will probably listen to it again and again. The narration was a perfect fit for the story.

Twisted & delicious!

This book was on the same level as Gone Girl and girl on a train, both of which I really enjoyed! The writing was top-notch and the reader was very good, I had to laugh at her pronunciation of words with emphasis on the wrong syllable ( on purpose?) frustration was one of them, although she did all the voices expertly! I did not see the ending coming at all which I really appreciated.

Good Read!

I loved this book. I like the way it was told with flashbacks. The ending wasn't predictable.

A mess

What a ridiculous mess of a book. Very hard to finish. Convoluted, boring, poorly planned. Not much happens. Mostly we're in the head of the narrator, who goes on and on with nothing interesting at all.
