Publisher's summary

"Despite the challenges - an unreliable narrator, an intricate plot, a shifting timeline, and myriad characters - Stephanie Racine gives a flawless narration of this audiobook.... This intense thriller is made even better by her performance." (AudioFile Magazine)

From renowned journalist Alice Feeney comes a riveting new audiobook, Sometimes I Lie.

My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me:

  1. I'm in a coma.
  2. My husband doesn't love me anymore.
  3. Sometimes I lie.

Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can't move. She can't speak. She can't open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn't remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it.

Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

Critic reviews

"With tension comparable to Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, plus the imaginative Now-Then-Before construction, Feeney unfolds just enough in each chapter to keep you page-turning for more, and her character development is excellent." (NJ.com)

"The creepy feeling at the back of your neck is 100 percent real." (People Magazine)

Totally confusing

Whole story made no sense. The constant singing of nursery rhymes was annoying. I don’t understand how this book got the ratings it has.

Very frustrating to read

I had a hard time getting through this book. Although I felt the author is a talented storyteller, I did not like the line of this story. It is very frustrating to to rely on a story spun by a known liar. At some point, as readers, we need to really understand the truth to get some sense of finality and closure. I did not get this. I felt like I was walking through the mind of a crazy person with no final exit. Frustrating, depressing. That's my take. I see others liked it, but it was not for me.

I’m so confused

So who’s who? I have no idea. I just finished this book and although I was into the book I was completely lost at the end. I feel like an idiot as I have no idea who’s who. The narrator was really good & the story was good but too many twists that now I need someone to explain it to me! Anyone?

Could have been great

The author didn't seem to know which way to go with these characters. As a result the story became confusing and muddled. So many unrealistic connections it was hard to take it seriously.

Pretty good

I wouldn’t consider this in my top 10 or favorites but it is a good listen. It isn’t too predictable. It has a good amount of twists and turns. I’m not in love with the characters so it was hard t be as involved.

Sometimes I Lie

I can say this is definitely one of my top 10 books. What a great storyline. The reader did a fabulous job of executing the story as it should have been read!

Just Okay

I liked the back and forth movement of chapters and characters to build suspense in the end. The story is a little on the twisted side, dark, and bothersome how evil some characters can be.

Great story

This book just has one surprise after another. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good “who dunnit”. Keeps you involved throughout the story.

Good payoff, but slow buildup

The end of the book was absolutely thrilling, but getting there was a bit of a slog; all the details fell into place at the very very end, a little too late. The narration was great, though, and the writing was good in general.

WTF?

WTF? I was enjoying the book and following along nicely until the last hour or two of this audio book when I have no idea what happened...did I miss something? No...I went back and read some reviews and it seems most everyone was confused. Identities change and change again...or something... Even though the ending made no sense to me, listening to most of the book was entertaining and engaging...the concept was interesting...a woman in a coma can hear what’s going on around her and is trying to piece together what happened to put her there and as she remembers the book goes back and forth from her past to the present. The actual story line, or the one she tells us, is pretty unbelievable, but then on the other hand, the title is “Sometimes I Lie” so maybe it’s all a lie. Anyway, it’s all fiction and it was entertaining and well-narrated so 3 stars for that.
