About this listen

This is a New York Times best-selling true crime book considered by many to be a classic of the genre.

The police in Jersey County, Illinois, accepted Paula Sims' story of a masked kidnapper who snatched her baby girl, Lorelei, from her bassinet. Three years later, her second newborn daughter suffered an identical fate - and this time the police were unable to stop searching until they had discovered the whole horrifying truth. This is the full terrifying story of twisted sexuality and hate seething below the surface of a seemingly normal family and of the massive investigation and nerve-shattering trial that made the unthinkable a reality. Written by the lawyer who won the case and the reporter who covered its entirety, the listener is given a unique close-up of the riveting drama that unfolds, painting a dark picture of the depraved family who lived with a murderous secret.

A short story that was a really long book

What made the experience of listening to Precious Victims the most enjoyable?

I really liked the narrator for this audiobook. The actual story of Paula Simms was really interesting.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The last few chapters were the best. There was definitely a massive amount of build up before the conclusion, which made the conclusion that much better.

What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?

Great voice influction, clear and concise.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

I like long books and feel I get more for my money, but this book was a bit TOO long for the actual story. I felt like it could have taken half as long to tell a more interesting story.

The Don Weber Show, starring Don Weber

This was hard for me to get through and it only paid off in the last half hour. This book felt to me like it was less about the Sims case and more about Don Weber talking about himself in the third person for 15 hours to show what a great and smart prosecutor he thinks he is. He compares himself to Sherlock Holmes. It showcased sneaky and shady tactics by the prosecution and I feel like I know more about Don Weber than Paula and Robert Sims. I won’t be listening to another book by Don Weber. Kevin Pierce is a good narrator.

Kevin price is amazing!

Where does Precious Victims rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book was so captivating. From the moment I started listening I could not put it down. Don Weber is not only a great prosecutor but an exceptional story teller. I have to be honest I was interested in the story, but the main reason for purchasing the book is Kevin Price. His way of narrating is so soothing and captivating. I could listen to him talk for hours. I recently purchased Silent Witness because of him and I know that Weber will deliver with a story once again.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

it was so hard to press pause at the end of my long drive home. I don't usually listen to my audible on the way to work, but this book just would not get out of my head. I had to listen!

Fantastic

An incredible story about the justice system and the lives of those who constitute it's workings. Not a gory retelling of a heinous crime but instead a human story about tragedy and loss. Great pacing, excellent narration and palpable emotions throughout a hard tale. Listen to this book.

Surprised and shocked

I really thought the unknown man was Robert. I was shocked the mother admitted that she killed both of her daughters. At the end I was said that Robert and Randy were killed in auto accident.
