About this listen

Dear Friend,

You were right: Desperation is a dangerous state of mind. It was desperation that drove me to London to salvage my family's reputation and finances in the first place. And it is desperation - and perhaps a little desire - that has gotten me into the situation I find myself in now.

You see, I've become ensnared in the investigation of a traitor by Lord Dewhurst - the most insufferable, sinfully handsome man I've ever met. I know it is shocking, but in order to catch this spy and clear my name, I've no choice but to play the agent's bride. Now I'm desperate again to avoid his seductive words and searing looks. I pray that I can resist him, but I can make no promises. Oh, my dear friend, I know he and I are merely pretending to be wed, but the blush he can send all the way to my petticoats feels far too real!

Yours truly, Charlotte

The pacing of the story kept me on the edge of my seat. There were a lot of unexpected twists. Great story!

I have been a Jayne Anne Krentz fan for quite some time, in all her iterations...Amanda Quick, Jayne Castle, etc. I like the believable supernatural qualities of her books.

I tried to like this one..

Spoiler alert: This story started out strong but quickly became absurd. First, she was violently kidnapped, held prisoner and then blackmailed to entrap her relative.. and at every opportunity she allowed him to touch and kiss her?? Please, any American woman I know would have given him a swift kick in the balls and run to find her relative who already said he would find her and help her.

Yes, there’s a HEA and Freddie redeems himself in the end but I still can’t stand how pathetic she allowed herself to be treated which only put her cousin in danger, as of course he would try to contact her! The whole story just made me mad.

2nd book of series redeeming

I almost did not read this 2nd book, since the first was horrible. Glad I did. This book reflects the Shana Galen of the previous books I have listened to. Narrator still awful, but bearable since the story was so good.
