About this listen

Austen’s classic tale of love and values in the class-conscious England of the late 18th century is her most beloved. The story follows Elizabeth Bennet, one of five sisters, as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and marriage in landed-gentry society. One of the most popular novels of all time. Has been adapted to countless variations for the screen.

What can I say...it's Jane Austin

What a wonderful story. The author teaches morality of judgement through an engaging romance. The wit and vivacity of her characters adds to the stories charm.

Love it but technical issues

The gaps between chapters are crazy long and drive me nuts. But everything else is wonderful.

If I could, I would give it 20 stars.

Such an amazing book! Always have loved the movie since I was 6. But my love for the story has only increased with this book!

Classic story, robot narrator

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this book only because the narrator will make you fall asleep shortly.

What did you like best about this story?

The story itself is timeless and worth a read every now and then.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She sounds kind of like a robot. The dialogue is a little lively, but when she gets into the narration itself her voice is just dry.

Do you think Pride and Prejudice needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No.

Any additional comments?

I recommend looking into some other narrators for this book if you're very interested in listening to the audio version.

Honestly... a bit overrated.

This was the longest, most tediously worded will-they-won’t-they story I’ve ever endured. I cannot deny Austin’s deft command of the English language, and I certainly enjoyed the conclusion of this story when I finally got there, but the journey was onerous to a fault. To put it far more plainly than Austin ever puts anything, nothing substantive or genuinely dramatic ever happens in this story. It’s more first-world problems than I ever cared to hear about. All with that ‘darling this and that’, and ‘that beastly so n’ so’, and ‘that lovely so n’ so’, and ‘surely not’, and so forth, non stop, for what felt like eons.

I don’t mean to be so dismissive of a classic, but this is precisely the kind of classic that might make a person think that classics are boring. I can’t honestly recommend it... or, on second thought, I do recommend it, but I recommend finding an abridged version. Half of this book could easily disappear and the story would actually benefit the story.
