About this listen

When rookie lawyer Jessica Ford gets the call from her boss, John Davenport, the senior partner at the illustrious law firm for which she works, she can tell he is well on his way to being drunk. He needs Jess to meet First Lady Annette Cooper, for whom Davenport is a personal lawyer, at a Washington, D.C., hotel. Jess is thrilled: this high-profile assignment must mean that she's earned her boss's trust and she's on her way to bigger things. But unfortunately, bigger isn't always better.

Jess doesn't remember much - only that in the course of the late-night meeting with Annette Cooper, she ended up in the backseat of a car, speeding off into the darkness. All Jess knows is that the car crashed en route, and the other three passengers were killed, including the First Lady. Badly injured, Jess is the only survivor of what is trumpeted around the world as a tragic accident.

Although she has no memory about the events leading up to the accident, Jess is still bothered by one question: Was it really an accident? The Secret Service agent on the case, Mark Ryan, gets the feeling that Jess is hiding something. As his suspicions grow, Jess's world starts falling apart. First, she is brutally attacked in the hospital, barely escaping with her life. Then her boss dies under questionable circumstances. In fact, everyone who might possibly know the details about the First Lady's last few hours starts turning up dead. And then Jess understands: If she remembers that night, she'll be dead too.

Terrified and certain that the First Lady's death was no accident, Jess has only Mark Ryan to turn to.

sorry, but this woman has the whiniest voice ever

her voice turns a conversation between two people into a whine fest. I can't stand it. it also detracts from the story line terribly. if you can find this book narrated by any other person, I would highly recommend it

Pursuit

This is my first Karen Robards audiobook and I do like it. However, it is very hard to get through because of the annoying narrator. Will never get a book narrated by this reader again. This is one book it might be worth reading instead of listening to it. Good story - Terrible narrator!

Narrators voice is not great

The men’s voice sound like an old lady which is rather jarring and the lead female character often is portrayed with an overly calm soft voice even in the midst of intense action. Otherwise an entertaining enjoyable story.

Another Great Story

Not sure how Karen Robards keeps doing It but her stories just keep entertaining at the highest level. Keep them coming.

Great story - Horrible narration

Story was great. I loved the characters and their interaction.
The narration was absolutely horrible. Needed a man to actually read for man parts. The woman's male voice impersonation was no ways believable. I would buy it again if she would hire sexy sounding male narrator such as in " Guilty".

Long wait for the punchline.

Good story just could have been more concise with some of the chase. Will certainly look for more from ms Robards to see if she's dialed it in.

The narration was not good. Mark sounded like an idiot.

The story wasn’t bad but I wouldnt recommend it. I will be sure to not listen to this narrator again.

Wrong narrator

This is one of the first books I read of Karen Robards, and one of my favorites. Unfortunately, the narration really takes away from the audio book. I think she must have been half asleep when they recorded it. How a person can sound so utterly bored, and describe a car crash is beyond me. Sorry, Karen. I love the story, but listening to the audio almost put me to sleep.

Well

The return this book. Then I brought it again because I needed it to understand the second book. The narration was not good but the story is good. I enjoyed the Washington power break down. Wow
