About this listen

An exquisite WWII novel illuminating the strength of three women in occupied Paris, for fans of The Nightingale, The Alice Network, and The Lost Girls of Paris.

"A truly outstanding novel...reminds us of the power of love, hope and courage." (Heather Morris, number-one best-selling author of The Tattooist of Auschwitz)

Paris, 1944

Celebrated singer Genevieve Dumont is both a star and a smokescreen. An unwilling darling of the Nazis, the chanteuse’s position of privilege allows her to go undetected as an ally to the resistance.

When her estranged mother, Lillian de Rocheford, is captured by Nazis, Genevieve knows it won’t be long before the Gestapo succeeds in torturing information out of Lillian that will derail the upcoming allied invasion. The resistance movement is tasked with silencing her by any means necessary - including assassination. But Genevieve refuses to let her mother become yet one more victim of the war. Reuniting with her long-lost sister, she must find a way to navigate the perilous cross-currents of Occupied France undetected - and in time to save Lillian’s life.

In this heart-wrenching novel, best-selling author Karen Robards showcases the extraordinary lengths one goes to save their family from a German prison. A web of spies, the resistance, and a vivid portrayal of Paris in wartime.

I wanted to like her...

I really rather enjoyed this book with one caveat. I really wanted to like Genevieve but, found her to be annoying and petulant. Her emotional issues aside, I simply did not find myself drawn into caring about her or her wellbeing.

fantastic story with added suprises

Not Karen's typical plot and story lines. at first I wasn't sure about it. however after a few chapters I was drawn in as I always am with her books. Well written. expect something different. hopefully there is another to follow.

The BEST book!

This is by far the best book I have read all year! It was thrilling and keeps you on edge the whole way through the plot! Such a heartfelt book. The way the author wrote this is truly incredible. It was creative and the words spoke to you. You can visualize the whole story to the point you feel like you are there. The ending was perfect! This is a must read! I am definitely going to read more books from this astounding author.

New Genre for Ms Robards

Great daily deal for $5.95, do not miss this if you are a fan of author. Note to Author and Audible, my sincere thanks for putting such a new book on the daily deal. On the Daily Deal, members can afford to explore new authors and more importantly long time fans of an author, will jump at the chance to listen to the author when that author wants to expand their writing horizons.
As a 20 yr fan of Ms Robards, I have seen her writing mature from pure core romance into suspense and mystery with that touch of romance that made her famous. Every good writer wants to evolve and yet please their fans. Ms Robards has done that for me in first, her “The Guardian” series narrated by the very talented Julie Whelan (it is in this series, I have become an avid fan of her) This story advances Ms Robards into a new realm of adventure suspense mystery. Well done and congratulations. As a fan of this author do not miss One Summer narrated by the late great Anna Fields AKA Kate Fleming and my top fave from this author, Justice narrated by Ms Angela Dawe (I have over 100 of her reads) OBTW, I do listen to all mysteries in the 1.2 speed as it matches the adventure. Give it a try.

A new Genre for Karen Robards, Historical Fiction

A fascinating story similar to The Nightingale, yet focused more on Paris nightlife and the French Resistance leading up to the American Invasion on
Omaha Beach in Normandy. Genevieve and Max are the ultimate spies portraying a famous Songstress and her manager.

Loved it and couldn’t stop listening.

This book held my attention through most of the book. Story was interesting and sometimes emotional. The horrors and the fear people lived through during that time is shown and felt while listening. Long but we’ll worth the listen. I recommend.

Spy

This is another take on spy during the war. Better then some but some of it was a little light on what really happen.
