Critic reviews

"I am proud to recommend Dr. JoAnne Pedro-Carroll's new book, Putting Children First: Proven Parenting Strategies for Helping Children Thrive Through Divorce. It is very readable, but incorporates a vast amount of research as well as the author's own extensive clinical experience. Today, when so many children suffer the problems created by their parent's divorce, parents and the professionals who work with them during the transitions relating to divorce will find this book a great guide to helping their children cope more successfully."-Robert J. Haggerty, M.D. former president of The W. T. Grant Foundation and The American Academy of Pediatrics

Divorcing the "correct" Way

I have been divorced for fours years and we still run into obstacles. I think if I had listened to this years ago it would have prevented amateur mistakes. It reassured me that our parenting plan is appropriate and it enlightened me to the effects of divorce on child and adult relationships. Unlike other divorce books I have listened to I didn't experience bouts of shame. This book was more "how to do divorce and raise children of divorce correctly".

Great book for this difficult time

I’m grateful that this book exists especially since there are so many unknowns in the process of divorce. The book is well researched and it doesn’t spare the adult people in a divorce from the truth. It’s frankness allows me to look at the reality of divorce for my kids and try to anticipate the bumps in the road.
We’ll be ok in the end.

PERFECT RESOURCE FOR SEPARATED/DIVORCED

I absolutely love this book! It is thorough in dissecting all the Dynamics of the emotions, behaviors, and results of your separation or divorce as it affects the entire family. It is helpful in teaching you how to manage yourself as a parent in a difficult situation as well as be attentive and understanding to what your children are experiencing through the same traumatic experience. it helped me to understand that a business-like plan in dealing with how we parent our children even though separated will you the best overall results for not only the children but ourselves. It helps us to be able to focus on the main thing and keep conflict to a minimum if at all possible. when married to a narcissist that can be very challenging as you are fighting to get your power back and keep your sanity, but if you realize that you can only manage yourself and your expectations and do what's best for the children at all times, it takes a lot of stress out of the uphill battle.
