About this listen

A Snow Queen retelling - with a romantic twist

After falling through a magical mirror, Jack stumbles into the Chanted Forest, where fairytale characters are real....

He's rescued by Aria, a princess on the run from the evil queen, and together, they embark on a quest to gather shards of a mirror, so they can use the portal to get away from the Chanted Forest forever.

They will need the help of friends such as Belle, Robin, and Ryding Hood if they have any hope of surviving the deadliest of foes.

But when dark secrets unravel, Jack and Aria must make a difficult choice: Face an evil queen and save the kingdom? Or save themselves and leave the fairytale characters without their happily ever after?

Queen of Snow starts off the Fairytales Reimagined series. An enchanting collection of connected retellings involving all the most-loved fairytale characters in literature.

I was very disappointed in what could have been a great story. The book should have been much longer for more in-depth development of plot, characters and story line.

There was a lack a development

Good layout, good putting it together just not what I expected myself personal feelings, but it was a good book.

It was ok.

The story was ok, but it just lacked character and the narrator could have done a better job at keeping the audience engaged, it was mainly monotone.

Just the story, performance could have been better.

It was a unique spin on classics we all know & love. It is written with a younger audience in mind. But it is a fun read.

Interesting..

I enjoyed the story & wanted to continue to see what happened. It was creative & fun! The narrator was not bad enough to make me stop but her inflections were off sometimes, her characters were not defined enough, & her cadence was annoying at times.

Great story, terrible narrator

It was OK, but I found myself not really being able to get into the story. I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator. Her inflection at the end of sentences was just not something I could get used to and it took away from the story.

Fine I guess

😬 I came off of this story disappointed and relieved it was over, and that makes me sad. 60% of my problem is the narrator. I gave her an extra star because she did speak clearly, the recordings didn’t have weird background noise and she was consistent in her style. She has a niche market, it isn’t one I visit, and I can’t blame her for that. The performance lacks vocal animation and what is there feels forced at times. It’s the difference between being ‘read to’ verses being ‘told a story.’

Some of this may be in part to the other 40% of my disappointment. The authors, both of them, have several books that have all been released in what looks like a relatively short period of time. I cannot speak to their personal timelines or writing history, but seeing a new book every 2 or 3 months being cranked out, it is concerning. The idea that these books are shoved out the door and on to shelves at mach speed would explain the lack of development and general clunkiness of the read.

Good storytelling is not quick. It takes time and multiple iterations. I don’t believe this book was subjected to either of these things. It still feels like an outline. Transitions are too quick at times, too many nuggets of information lack embellishments, and the vocabulary is generic, barely flavored vanilla. If readers roll their eyes so hard that they can see their own tonsils, the editor did not do their job.

At the same time, this story is relatively wholesome and absolutely safe for young readers. The plot feels very much like the tv series “Once Upon a Time.” With the hopes that this is one of the earlier books written by this duo, I will take the time to listen to the next one. These stories have so much potential for greatness and I want to see this series reach the potential there. Sometimes the ‘first season’ is ‘the worst season.’ Wish me luck, because I’m turning the hope up and diving into the next book.

I gave this recording sooo much side-eye…

it was alright. Had some twists and turns and defiantly good for a younger crowd. performance was alright. Will finish the series due to decent story line/ interesting take.

pretty good

I really liked this book but I felt like it was lacking something. It just seemed like there needed to be more umph. There were a couple incomplete stories and I’m hoping the next books touch base on them. I didn’t really love the narrator, she seemed to preppy.

Leads into other character stories
