About this listen

Imagine an Age of Exploration full of alchemy, human dissection, sea monsters, betrayal, torture, religious controversy, and magic. In Europe, the magic is thin, but at the edge of the world, where the stars reach down close to the Earth, wonders abound. This drives the bravest explorers to the alluring Western Ocean.

Christopher Sinclair is an alchemist who cares only about one thing: quintessence, a substance he believes will grant magical powers and immortality. And he has a ship....

My report.

The book is good, as long as I remember that the time period is in the 16th - 18th centuries.

Probably best for middle-schoolers

Not what I was hoping for. To be fair, the book isn't that bad and the narration is really pretty good once I listened to it at 1.25x. It's just not a book for adults, or fans of noval magic systems.

I couldn't egt through the narration

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

This book seemed like something I would really like, but I found the narration to be too distracting. Maybe this is not the sort of book that translates into audio form. I had to restart the first chapter 3x times because I was not following along.
