Publisher's summary

Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

THE GREAT INDOORS is a parody of backpacking adventures from the satirical mind of Ginny Hogan. Alice's so-called "journey" takes an unexpected turn that’s less about trails and more about what happens when you realize that people can know how to test water for uranium and still have social anxiety.

If you've ever believed that achieving a lofty goal would somehow untangle the complexities of your life, The Great Indoors is a hilarious reminder that sometimes the best adventures happen right at home.

captivating beginning

I did enjoy the beginning and middle part of the story the end was disappointing and some sections through the middle were rather nasty and unnecessary. The beginning is great captivating and somewhat funny but by the end the writer gets rather annoying and it became increasingly difficult to continue. It's disappointing she didn't go through with her pla , that is a follow-up book I would listen to.

Funny, amusing

I wish this book was longer. It was amusing and relatable listening to the protagonist flail and fail and eventually realize that’s all life is…trying again and again. Very enjoyable listen.

Humorous, light hearted read

First time was hesitant to try this book out. But I took the chance and I was really surprised at how good it was. A level of inspiration, a lot of humor, and a reference to modern times.

Entertaining and thoughtful journey of self-discovery

This is a delightful and funny yet introspective look into a young woman's journey of self-discovery. It has a refreshing plot that distinguishes it from formulaic romantic comedies. A good listen all around!

Smart and hilarious!

A 30 something Gen Zer believes she will find herself by hiking the PCT. Only, she has never hiked, or even, spent time outdoors. Her perspective on her relationships, career, and life in Manhattan are witty and funny as well as thoughtful and kind. I was thoroughly entertained by listening to this story.

Very well written, lots of laughs.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator is outstanding. The book is very well written. And I laughed quite a bit during the listen. I did leave four stars for the story because it never mentions how Alice had all this money to afford the things that she was doing without a job. It’s possible I missed that part, and if so, my apologies. But I do highly recommend this book.
