About this listen

Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

Mae Whitman narrates this backpacking adventure unlike any other from the brilliant and witty mind of Ginny Hogan. Alice's so-called "journey" takes an unexpected turn that’s less about trails and more about what happens when you realize that people can know how to test water for uranium and still have social anxiety.

If you've ever believed that achieving a lofty goal would somehow untangle the complexities of your life, The Great Indoors is a hilarious reminder that sometimes the best adventures happen right at home.

captivating beginning

I did enjoy the beginning and middle part of the story the end was disappointing and some sections through the middle were rather nasty and unnecessary. The beginning is great captivating and somewhat funny but by the end the writer gets rather annoying and it became increasingly difficult to continue. It's disappointing she didn't go through with her pla , that is a follow-up book I would listen to.

Great Narration

I chose to listen to this audiobook because the narrator gave great narration, but the story was so-so, and the ending gave nice conclusion to the character's decisions.

Entertaining

Not much of a plot, more narration and introspection; narrators character was a bit annoying at times, but I stuck with it and enjoyed it nonetheless

Fun story

Great narrator, perfect fit for the awesome character.
I absolutely loved Alice's personality; honest, confused, self aware, daring, failing, evolving and with a simple-honest-funny point of view on life and relationships.

Cute story

I was genuinely interested in what this self-absorbed individual would learn from her adventure. Good ending.

Mae Whitman was great. The book wasn’t.

So bad. Just basic, boring and badly written. Mae Whitman was terrific as always but the material was a painful slog to get through.
